11. Profile says
he's in NC. I do hope he's okay! Ivan is going to hit the Appalachians pretty hard with flooding and some severe weather. I'm in northeast TN, live alone, and am getting more than a little apprehensive. :scared:

15. take care and stay safe
Please let us know how you are doing! I hope that the storms pass by quickly and that no one else is badly affected - you folks in the eastern US have really taken a beating this year. :( Take care, all who are in the storms' path!

10. My company's Atlanta office closed early today because of Ivan.
Tornado watch until 9 EDT and flood warnings. The building was creaking and shifting in the wind.

Be safe.

13. I'm back. Bad hour and a half.
We are OK. The dogs are freaked. Something came over that sounded like a flight of four Harriers. I think it was a tornado aloft.

My parents, in Griffin, Georgia, had a tornado touch down a couple of blocks south of their house. All close relatives in Alabama , including the nutty cousin in Mobile who was going to ride it out in her swamp shanty (she ended up at a church shelter), are accounted for and doing well.

My dad's boyhood home of Blountstown, Florida was devastated. We have some distant relatives there. We also have distant relatives in Pensacola, where a street near the airport bears our family name.

Meanwhile, back at the storm. The wind is howling here and the electricity cutting on and off. Once it interrupts my posting, I'll go down and fire up the 9kW generator. That will give me the well pump, freezers and re-fridge, micro-wave, ham radio, computer, TV, and basic lights. Looks like a long, loud night.

Looks like the next couple of days are going to be rough for those of us in the Appalachians.

17. Hang in there, DemoTex...
Sorry that you're going through this -- glad you and your family are okay. Take care with electricity, etc. mixed in with all the H20.

I live in earthquake country, but I wouldn't trade that for what you folks have to face seasonally.

Keep us posted (literally) on how it's going --

Must be all the munchkins. Make sure they don't eat any, it'll make them sick.

Rain and wind rolled in here a couple of hours ago. I do not have TV on, and the radio has soft rock on, trying to get info, tho not urgently. I wondered earlier about tornadoes. Wish I had a weather radio right now. I am in Knoxville.

You will be closer to the "dirty" side of Ivan. Be careful.

21. The wind is roaring up the gorge.
My anamometer is peaking at 42 knots (49 mph). The electricity is blinking, but not enough to drop off the connection. Anyway, I am as snug as a bug in a rug with a well-fueled generator, two good dogs, and some fairly good Shiraz.
