1. The closest I have gotten to the martial arts is Qi Gong, which is
as you probably already know, a slow movement exercise, from which Tai Chi derives from. I have never done the fast moving, high kicking stuff. Maybe some day I will.

Just a suggestion, but this topic might do better in The Meeting Room, threads in The Lounge move really fast and The Meeting Room goes much slower for more in-depth discussions of topics. Stop by and visit when you can.

And welcome to DU:hi:

2. I am struggling with the practice of Tai Chi
without a suitable teacher in my location, alas.

I don't want to take the continuing ed starting class, and don't feel comptetent enough even in the Yang Short Form to join the local practicum group. And the local alternative medicine practitioner who teaches a Tai Chi class was simply not a good teacher. (Yes I know its very disrespectful to speak that way of any master, but I don't know what else to say).

I have been toying with the idea of taking up Aikido as an alternative to Tai Chi. I'm not adverse to the contact aspects, and the master at that dojo is very highly recommended.

3. Have you checked your local community colleges?
That is where I take the Qi Gong and Yoga classes and I have had some really good teachers. I may try and take more Tai Chi next semester, right now I have 3 yoga classes a week. I just love the way it makes me feel and look.
