Over 1800 people arrested so far

in NYC....no orders to dispurse, no rights read, no lawyers, no phone calls, a lot of people were just on the sidewalk and got swept up in mass arrest. The "jail" condiditons are poor and overcrowded. No beds, no chairs, no blankets, a chemical smell is in the air and chemical warning signs are posted in the building.

1. I heard on the news that this is three times

the amount of arrests during the 1968 convention! Then my husband added that the police then didn't bother to arrest people, they just beat them to a pulp. Sad, but true.

2. Wasn't the march last Sunday?

I saw it and loved it. I thought there were just a few arrests. Now it seems like people that want to be arrested have prolonged what was a good demonstration.

Did obnoxious people who wanted to be arrested get their wish?

3. NO!

A lot of people were just on the sidewalk and got swept up by the cops. They were not even INVOLVED with the protest. Even press who have credentials issued by NYPD have been arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The police are told that if people ask questions, cuff 'em. These people are being their basic rights.
