Laura Branigan
What a shock!!! I know there must've been other threads but I can't search. And I only last month got a hold of her GLORIA on cd, I had it on vinyl. I've been working out to her songs, so young to die, she was only 47!!

Good-bye Laura.

1. I feel bad and all....
but I bleeping hated this pablum crap that passed for music.

I was forced to listen to "Gloria" by our Belgian bus driver on my French trip in 1983, and I've been permanently traumatized by it. There are no words to describe how much I hate that song.

2. Hallelujah and Amen
I had an ex who thought it was the greatest song ever written. I thought about hurling myself from the fifth floor, but figured the risk was I might survive and be forced to listen to it while in traction in the living room.

Notice I said ex.

11. I Liked The Remixed Version Of Gloria...
if you hated Gloria the first time, then you'd despise the remix... but I liked the remix even BETTER than the original.

3. Oh..Man!!...Be careful what you say!
Take my word for it.

As for Myself, I think Laura was one of the most talented performers
to ever grace the stage. :)

PS: I learned the hard way.:)

10. Actually, calling an artist a "no talent hack"...
..especially right after her passing, is an insult to her fans on DU. After all, if the is a "no talent hack" then the people on DU who like her must be naive, ignorant, stupid, a poor judge in music, and in desperate need of your guidance to lead us into the light of real talent. :eyes:

In Fact ..I don't believe I've ever called anybody on these forums
naive, ignorant, stupid or otherwise.
Christ..My Friends make fun of some of the crap I happen to like but I certainly don't take it to heart.
I mean, just because laura sings flat doesn't mean I hate her or for that matter, do I not like her.

On Edit: The only insult is the crap that people buy.
Why do you think that popular top 40 music is selling like hotcakes?
Because the average idiot out there knows what the score is? (pardon my pun)
If the general public was not buying it, it wouldn't be popular.

I'm afraid you and your kind knows nothing about music.

You're a walking contradiction.

25. Naw...just fed up with people talking about ..
..something they know nothing about. I do the same thing with
Right-wing Republicans and idiots. If they get upset when called on their ignorance, than maybe they'll learn the differance between
what they like and what it is real.

could keep your 'musical' tastes to yourselves at a time like this. Lend her a little respect, instead of trashing her chief song.

And yet, Henri Cartier-Besson passes without a mutter.

6. Heard some nicely detailed reports of C-B's passing on NPR,
including some old interviews with him. I, being an enthusiastic amateur photographer myself, certainly got out the books, enjoyed his work once again, and gave a tip of the ol' beret to a well-lived and important life.

Sic transit gloria mundi...

12. We saw it the first time.
Everyone has their opinions.

Sorry, I said I felt bad she was dead. But I thought her music sucked. I won't apologize for hating a song.

You need a valium, if that's the most upsetting thing in your day.

You buy "pablum for the masses" than complain because top 40 radio sucks. When it comes to music most people ARE the "Lowest common Denominator" You think "playing" is about being able to screech out a few noise cycles and stand around being "Hip"
Jazz Musicians have a saying.. "The band Sucked so bad the crowd liked them"...How true it is....

19. I don't have lots of friends but the friends I do have..
don't act like they know something about a subject while knowing absolutely nothing.
They have more sense than to let Record producers tell them what's
cool and hip.

They would never say something dumb like:
"I don't know anything about "string theory" but I shore know a good 'un when I see it"... the same way that most folks talk about Music.. Liking something is fine but if you want to get pissed off because someone calls you on your ignorance than learn a little bit about the subject so maybe you'll know when a singer/player is singing 25 cents out of Key. I refuse to put up with ignorance.
(when it comes to Music) If I don't know shit about a subject, I don't try to "Fake my way thru it"

You sound like a snob belittling someone. To some people music is just music, they know what they like. Why piss on Branigan's grave?

21. I'm not pissing on someones grave.
It's the difference between a rural hillbilly sitting around with
his moonshine pals and playing a simple tune for half an hour straight and enjoying even minute of it. Are they playing WELL and
in tune? Hell no! but they are happy in what they're doing and I find it Great, Lovable and most important..Honest... again... Honest.

What (most) Popular performers do is the opposite. ...Acting like they're really cool and "Performing my Art"....Barf!!!
Even though they play almost as bad as the Hillbilly and his friends. I just think that there is a Huge difference.

The ones that say they play but show all the aspects of being a
musical holder and not a player at all. I'd love to get you on stage and play a Be-Bop tune in Eb (say at around 220bpm) ...I'd love to see you look like a dear that got caught in the headlights. You can post all you want or what-ever. I'm putting you on ignore ...
..and don't call yourself a player...you're not.
