where can a 50+ start over and make 50,000 year?
It seems young college grads get out and make 40 -50,000 a year. But what about the rest of us older folks????

4. It depends on what the college grads majored in
If they're engineers, they yeah, they might make that much right out of college. New accountants, teachers, nurses, it will be more like $30 to $35K. It also depends a lot on what part of the country you're in.

5. Find a rich person to blackmail
Yes, that's a joke. But a grim, cynical, bad-ass joke, because my financial situation is grim, cynical, and bad-ass.

I'm 46. I'm not broke, I'm ruined.

Yep ... computer programmer.

27. I have been living on life's edge for about 10 years....
back in school to get school loans to pay rent....which is what drove me to go for a master degree....you can borrow more money.....but where or when will it all end.....

it is better than a year ago....but still awful....and debt is going up.....feels like a vise grip....

need to find some way to do some sales or self employment that does not cost money......

the teaching part time is ok but students can be so damn tough to deal with ...they want grades but not the work.....

they want to just sit there and think you can stuff the information in and them not touch the keyboard and practice some of the skills....

22. Very true. Sales is the place to be.
If you learn how to sell you can always find a job, and the best part is that you decide how much you make.

9. i remember reading a while ago
that real estate agents can make $50,000 their first year out. I don't think it is that hard to get a license, but I really know nothing about that.

Whatever happens, best of luck to you. I think a career change later in life is one of the scariest things you can do.

13. 50 is the new 35
or at least the new 40.
important to remember, if you are taking
good care of yourself, your prospects at
this age are quite different than our parents
generation.
I'm considering a major change myself, one that
would have been considered madness 20 years
ago.
but think...we will be active, and probably
of necessity, working, into our 70s and 80s..
that's a lifetime.
what do you want to be doing with that
time?

16. I was going to suggest trucking
You won't make 50k right off the bat, but you can make 40k your first year if you sign on with a good company. I'm a local driver with eight years experience and I make 40k, could be 55k if I wanted to hit the road. But then again, if you are a long haul trucker you have very little time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. It's something you just have to prioritize.

23. What are your skills?
If you're good at sales, sales people can make $$$, if they're good. (I'm terrible at sales...or at least I was when I tried it years ago.)

A high end salesman can make a lot, and companies will always be trying to entice you over to them with nice offers.

Most people I know make $25~30K and we're well out of college...

If I knew where I could make 50K, I'd be making it...

I'm a young college grad and I make 29,000 in my first year. Thankfully I have other jobs to help pay those student loans, but what kind of college grads do you know. I'd LOVE to know what they are doing! ;)
