6. British runner whose dad helped him to the finish line in Barcelona
I was there but can't remember his name. It was a 400 semifinal with a packed crowd. The British runner was very good but injury plagued. He pulled up about midway thru the race and his father came out of the stands and they slowly finished the race together, absolute emotion on the son's face. Everyone around me was in tears, including myself.

12. You and 275 Million
. . . other Yanks.

I wouldn't go to the movie (although I heard it was decent), because I NEVER want to forget those last two minutes, when the Soviets were making shot after shot, trying desperately to score.

Then Al Michaels. "DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?!"

I get chills just remembering it now.

11. Who was that female U.S. swimmer who didn't realize she'd won?
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 10:42 PM by rocknation
She pulled up into her lane and didn't even look at the scoreboard. The camera stayed on her while she collected her breath (and probably berated herself--she'd been touted as a shoo-in for a medal). After what seemed like ten minutes, she forced herself to look at the scoreboard. You could see her gaze moving upward, upward, as she looked for her name--and needless to say that when she found it in the number one slot, she underwent a complete personality change! She said later she thought she'd done no better than fourth. Does anyone remember her name?

13. I miss Eddie the Eagle
The officials changed the rules so he couldn't qualify any more :( The winter Olympics were never the same after that.

15. The hurdler, back in '92, I believe
Or sprinter, whatever, I think he was British - anyway, he pulled up lame about halfway through the race, and his dad ran on to the track to help him finish, despite the enormous amount of pain the runner was in. He just wanted to finish.

Best Olympic moment I have ever seen.
