People Flock To Baby Born With "Tail"
<snip>

A CAMBODIAN baby born with a 10cm "tail" has become the breadwinner for a poor family as hundreds of people flock to see her and make offerings, police say.

Yet unnamed, she was born with a spine considerably longer than normal, creating an uncharacteristic protruding tailbone, said Ngil Sophal, the police chief of Svay Chrum district 120km south-east of Phnom Penh.

"But she is healthy," he said.

"The unusual baby was born to a poor family. Now a lot of locals are going to see her."

Some were offering up to 2,000 reil (about 70 cents Australian) for a peek at the girl.

10. Cute puppies! Are they
American Eskimos or Samoyeds? They look a little more like Samoyeds to me. I have an Eskie, who is my baby even though she is 8 years old.

3. One of the European royal families had this birth defect
Can't remember which one it was, maybe the Hapsburgs. Every so often, one of them was born with a tail.

4. Well, if she gets into trouble, she won't need to be picked up by the ear!
I wonder if they can do anything to get rid of the protrustion, it'll make sitting down rather difficult...

6. Apparently, humans have been trying to evolve a tail for several years now
But we keep cutting them off.

9. This happens more often than you might think.
Every fetus has a tail, which eventually becomes encorporated into the body as the fetus matures. Sometimes this doesn't happen and a baby is born with a tail. In modern times, the "tail" is removed usually immediately.
