I never liked Nirvana much.
I mean, the songs were passable, but the lyrics were cheap grade-nine poetry. To me, they were a mediocre rock group blown out of their depth by a disturbing fascination with Kurt Cobain's personal turmoil.
I preferred Mudhoney. At least they had a sense of fun.

9. Grohl is great. The Foo Fighters have long since surpassed Nirvana
in my estimation. Great tunes.

17. MOVING TARGETS!!!
Great to see another person who even remembers that band, let alone knows how great they were.

Even as obscure as they were to the mainstream, at least Squirrel Bait got plenty of recognition among indie rock fans. Moving Targets didn't even get that far.

"The Other Side" by Moving Targets and "Sun God" by Squirrel Bait are 2 of my all-time favorite songs; absolute classic..

10. I admit, when I saw them at the 09:30 Club ex post "Nevermind"
it was a cantankerously wonderful show.

Never went 24-hour Nirvana, but they were in heavy rotation for a while.

p.s. - How could Foo Fighters champion that pseudoscience bullshit on AIDS for so long? And saw them in Phoenix in the mid-nineties - shit songs by a shit band.

Regardless,

11. I don't understand some of the Nirvana-haters here.
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 11:52 PM by northwest
I think "Bleach" was the best rock album of the 1980's. Nevermind was pop-rock pap, but Incesticide and In Utero were some of the greatest albums ever made.

I think Dave Grohl was the musical brains of the group. I personally thought it would've been better if Grohl started out with his own band and Nirvana kept Chad Channing, their former drummer. Channing was the greatest drummer in the band's history, moreso than Grohl.

Kurt wasn't very good lyrically, but he had so much musical talent. I think they deserved the recognition they got.

Floyd the Barber rocks. Stain spoke to me personally.

I could go on, but your hatred seems to have clouded your good sense.

24. Hatred? What hatred?
You have to inspire hatred. A mediocrity like Nirvana don't inspire anything in me.
And I don't want to read his journal, because he was fucked-up junkie who ruined his own life and his daughter's. Why would I indulge such a wanker?

23. I thought "Smells Like Teen Spirit" rocked when it came out
I bought the album and thought it was alright. They aren't one of my favorite bands but they've got a few songs I like. Unfortunately they aren't the ones that they play on the radio.
