I really hate satellite TV.
I have Dish Network and every time it rains, which is happening right now, I lose all reception. I e-mail them and complain that I should be given credit for the viewing time I have lost due to the bad reception. But of course, I get the usual stock answer, such as make sure there are no branches blocking your dish, etc., etc.

1. Do you have this problem all the time?
I have cable, but was thinking about changing to a dish because these darn cable companies keep changing the rates all the time. I checked with a neighbor of mine, and he said he doesn't have any problems unless the storm is really bad, and the cable usually goes out then too.

4. Yes, it happens all the time for me.
And today was not really a bad rain storm. Maybe it depends on what state you are in and how strong your signal is.

2. I have it too
but mine only goes out in very intense storms, not just normal rain. To me though it still beats cable which went out and stayed out much more freqently for no apparent reason.

6. To tell you the truth, I had better reception with cable, but
the leading provider here is Comcast and they are more expensive than satellite, so I guess I will just have to suffer and bitch to Dish Network everytime I lose the signal, which I do quite often.

3. recently switched from Direct TV to DISH
When we moved, we switched to DISH from the Murdoch controlled Direct TV. However, our Direct TV rarely ever went down or lost it's signal.

7. Thanks for the replies. I've been thinking about this for a while
but I'm such an impatient person when something I pay for doesn't work like it;s supposed to! I sure can't believe the BS sales pitches you hear from all of them, so I appreciate the information from each of you.

8. maybe you need to tweak the dish.
i've been w/ dish network in the trinity alps in northern california and now in rural oregon so i've been through some pretty severe weather and i'm really impressed with the reliability factor of the reception. in fact, there have been times the local channels have been knocked off the air but dish has kept coming through like a champ, and getting free speech tv and link tv and pbsu are extras i wouldn't trade-in for cable for nuttin.

so check the focus on your actual dish, maybe it's just been knocked and you're right on the edge of the reception footprint.

Signal loss was becaoming all too frequent. It costs a little more, but we get more channels (had Direct TV)
