I saw a dead motorcyclist in Chicago over the weekend
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 12:56 PM by bif
We were heading to the southside on Lakeshore and a bunch of cars were stopped ahead. when we got there I realized a motorcycle accident had just takenn place. I told my kids to look left. But when I happened to look a the scene, I saw a guy laying on the pavement in a fery distorted position, with a huge pool of blood around his head. No way the guy survived. And we saw another motorcycle accident on Sunday? Yikes, was that ever horrible.

3. As a motorcyclist, I thank you for the visual...
...NOT!

Of course, it sounds like he was riding without a helmet, so he almost certainly was an idiot. Doesn't make his death any less sad, just more senseless.

4. Well, I saw a helmet about a hundred feet from his bike

And it must have been his, because he was the only motorcyclist involved in the accident. Then again, he may not have been wearing it.

10. You can thank ABATE for that
Very big on lobbying against any helmet laws here. Apparently, they're effective.

8. I Saw One Near My Home About 3 Weeks Ago
Helmetless rider, lost control and hit a farm implement head on. I didn't see the moment of impact, but a dumptruck in front of me, locked the brakes and some dirt when flying. A bunch of stuff hit the ground in the middle of the road.

About 10 seconds later, i realized that the "stuff" that hit the ground was the rider. I called the police on my cellphone. When they got there, (in only about 20 seconds), the cop looked at the guy, who still hadn't moved a single muscle. He then radioed, ignored the guy and started getting witness statements. Never even went back to the guy. So i realized he was obviously already dead.

The EMT vehicle got there in about another minute and a half. By then, the cop had gotten to me. After i talked to him, i turned around and went home.

Next day in the paper, sure enough, the guy was pronounced dead at the scene. Massive head and upper body trauma.

9. Just had a lowside today
Since I wear protective gear I am well, though I may be bruised tomorrow. My ride, on the other hand, needs some work now. Dammit, I need that bike for the upcoming semester.

I've seen some messy motorcycle accidents in my time, though I mention in the interest of fairness that automobile accidents can be just as gory.
