1. . o O (Is Parcells a dumbass or WHAT?)
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 12:00 PM by HawkeyeX
Looks like the 'Boys aren't going to make it this year.

Sorry gang, but Parcells made a bonehead move.

Releasing Carter and Hutchinson in favor for a old geezer and a unproven rookie?

21. I'll second that.
I'm not much of a fan anymore, of any sports or team, but my childhood love of the 'boys still rears its head now and then. I grew up watching them scrimmage in Thousand Oaks during the summer and winning $$$ betting my allowance with all the neighborhood men every time they played the local Rams. Except once; the year they made it to the superbowl on one FREAK catch by Billy Waddy...thrown by TESTAVERDE. Of course, the Steelers mopped the field with them in the Superbowl, but...

PLEASE, NO TESTAVERDE.

3. Wow.
Surprising move.
From what I know of the situation, Testaverde is probably the guy now. But if I had to guess, my money's on Henson to start by midseason...if not sooner.

5. Very bizarre
There has to be more to it than just quarterbacking skills.

Carter must not have kissed Coach's big ass enough.

6. Didn't Parcells say that Carter had a leg up on the other QBs?
He did say that this week, didn't he?

I guess he figured that Carter wasn't the future anyway, so might as well cut him now, go with Vinnie until Henson is ready.

9. Oh really? I was NEVER impressed with Carter's skills.
I'm surprised he's lasted as long as he had--I've always been incredibly underwhelmed by Carter, and it's got nothing to do with race.

Surprised I'm the only 'pokes fan so far who's not unhappy about this development...

13. Anything that makes Parcells look bad is fine by me.
I hated the Cowboys before, and when they took on both Parcells and TERRY GLENN, it was personal.

I was so happy when the Pats blanked them 12-0 last year. I hope they do it again.

14. Nope-not a bonehead move. T'was the powder..
http://msn.foxsports.com/story/2638378

Club owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Carter has been released. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells is expected to hold a regularly scheduled news conference at 11:30 a.m. PT Wednesday at the team's training camp headquarters in Oxnard, Ca.
Carter entered the league in the NFL substance abuse program and this is his second positive test, which by NFL rules would warrant a four-game fine — not a suspension.

According to an earlier broadcast report, Carter was AWOL from practice Wednesday morning, and the absence is not injury related and the Cowboys will be making an "official" statement regarding Carter after the conclusion of practice. But other broadcast reports have intimated that the Cowboys quarterback will be released, leaving Vinny Testaverde and Drew Henson to battle for the starting position

16. ooooh, I didn't know that about Carter....
God, that's all we need....another Michael Irvin fuckup. Great player who just blew the hell out of his own career.

18. Nonsense
Michael Irvin will end up in the Hall of Fame. He's one of the main reasons the Cowboys won those Superbowls. He had a great career IN football.

22. Of course he had a great career....
But it took herculean effort to keep him out of serious trouble (and, in fact, he probably got off a little too easy at least once).

It also reflected very poorly on the entire team--they were defined for a few years by Irvin's bad behavior, and I still remember that quite well (and quite unhappily). I'm tired of making excuses for millionaire athletes (*cough* Ray Lewis *cough*), no matter how good they are for my team. If Carter had been warned by Parcells before and failed the drug test, then Parcells is just carrying out the rules that were already laid out. I respect that--and I say this as someone who was less than thrilled with getting Parcells as head coach.

And, as I already said, I don't think it's going to be much of a loss to the team. Carter has never impressed me on the field. He's had his moments (that Monday night game last season against NY being one), but overall...

Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 01:00 PM by No2W2004
Still, they need a QB now with experience because Vinny ain't gonna make it the whole season and Chad sucked in NFL Europe.

I don't know all the details about how long or how the Cowboys have tried to deal with this particular situation, (Quincy on drugs), so I can't comment on that other than to say if they never tried to help him and are just cutting their losses, then they are a shitty organazation for just throwing a human being away.

If they did try to get him help and he refused, then it's another example of someone throwing it all away for cocaine. :(

19. I look for the Cowboys to pick up another QB before the season.
There's still plenty of time before the season to make a deal. I doubt whether Hinson or Testaverde will be the QB by opening day.

20. I'd pick up Henson in my Fantasy Football leagues
But right now - and this is in a keeper league with my friends - I have Michael Vick and Kyle Boller, so I'm feeling pretty good about my future QB prospects. Now if I can only get a decent RB #2...
