Job situation - I just want to kvetch

Okay, so I've been out of work more or less since September when 360 of us were laid off from my company (I'm a computer programmer). I took a job at a call center doing tech support for cell phone customers, but I had to quit that because the shift they had me on (up until 2 am every night I worked) was killing me, and I had to attend to some family stuff. So I'm at a different call center now. When I was first hired, I was going to be doing billing issues for another cell phone company (which is worse than tech support because dealing with money issues gets people pissy). Well, the company calls me and tells me that that the training that was supposed to start in a week has been backed up three weeks, but if I want, I can take a job reviewing ads submitted to Yahoo personals. The benefits of this job are that I won't have to talk to customers; the training started the next week, and I get paid to see smut and then kick it to the curb.

So training started, and it was great fun - especially since I was the class wise-ass. One example of complete stupidity from someone posting a personal was the guy included three pictures of his penis - the last one next to a Aquafina bottle (the small bottle) to give us some measure of scale. The trainer asked, "Okay, what's obviously wrong with this picture?" I said that the guy was trying to use Yahoo to market Aquafina, which was against rule #7 for overt advertising in a photo.

Anyway, three days into training, HR comes in and tells us that we're all being dismissed because Yahoo decided to keep the smut-checking team in Omaha. It was supposed to be transitioned to the Tulsa branch after our training. We're told though that if we wanted, we would be the first placed into a new training class starting in 2 weeks for DirectTV technical support. That started today.

What's weird is that after we're trained, we will leave the call center and go to work for DirectTV. They decided that they wanted to have their own call centers instead of contracting out for them, but they asked the place I'm at now to train one last team so they would be raring to go.

What's funny about this is that I applied to DirectTV when they put an ad in the paper three weeks ago, and I got rejected. I guess I'll be working for them whether they like it or not.

Fortunately, I have some balloon twisting and magic gigs coming up so at least I'll be doing something I find enjoyable.

But damn, I miss the smut. :)
