Wisdom teeth. Impacted. Pain. Can't think. Help.
can only take crappy tylenol since I'm allergic to aspirin. can't get the damn things pulled until after finals. My head feels like it's going to explode. I can't eat. My vision is blurry from the pain.

taking antibiotics, but they don't help with the pain!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Can you handle hot things?
Last week I had a really bad toothache...my mom told me the capsaicin in hot peppers helps with toothache pain (she read it in one of her mags..Woman's Day or the like) I tried it...dropped some Tabasco on it...it really did help until I could get to the dentist.

2. Call the dentist and get some Vicodin called in to your pharmacy.
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 07:26 PM by Mary Pat
If it's after hours, call his/her emergency number. Do not take "no" for an answer. It should have been prescribed along with the antibiotics.

4. Too bad you're not Canadian
We can get Tylenol with codeine over-the-counter, much better. Have you considered a combination of liquor and sleep?

6. Honey, exams or no exams...
don't let them get infected!!! That happened to me and blood poisoning soon followed. Very dangerous! At the first sign of a fever...get to the doc. The school will let you make up the exams. Believe me! I know what I'm takling about! Watch for a fever and if you gums turn white, and then GO!

I think the doc was worried about the same thing, which is why she's ordered me on penicilin until I get into the oral surgeon

Anbesol?
It's just a local that you rub on your gums but it might be worth a try. What about advil? You have my sympathy. Dental pain can be overwhelming.

8. God, I'm so sorry
 I know how much that hurts. I was in the exact same boat my senior year of college. I felt like ripping them out with my bare hands myself.

How long until you can have them taken out? Please take care.

10. I don't know
this is my last week of classes, then finals the week after that, then I start my internship the following tuesday. No time seems good. I don't know how long it takes or what the recovery time is.

13. You really need to do it ASAP
if you're in this much pain. You probably need a couple of days' recovery. Take care of yourself, dear.

20. Labor Day?
It sounds like you would need probably 2 maybe 3 days to recuperate. You can't eat real food, and you can't drink alcohol for awhile afterward.

I had an impacted molar, so 5 extracted at once, and I needed a day or 2.

Labor Day would give you an extra one for recuperation. In the meantime, lots of Anbesol, and 3 Motrin at a time if you can take ibuprofen.

22. You need to do it NOW before finals.
This is the best time and you'll be able to think straight and study for finals. Nothing urgent will happen in the last few days of classes and you can get notes from someone else in each class anyhow. You'll feel fine a day or so later and you'll be in much less pain immediately. DO NOT WAIT. You're not only likely to fail your exams if you try to take them with this kind of pain, but you're all too likely to feel even worse if your teeth are still impacted during finals week.

Call the oral surgeon tomorrow first thing and get an emergency appointment. They'll schedule it if you tell them how bad it is.

14. Do what Brigham Young did.
“...it is not my privilege to drink liquor, neither is it my privilege to eat tobacco. Well, bro. Brigham, have you not done it? YES, FOR MANY YEARS, but I ceased its HABITUAL PRACTICE. I used it for toothache; now I am free from that pain, and my mouth is never stained with tobacco.”

18. Ice pack
on your face, rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Get it pulled tomorrow, it only takes a few minutes. I had one yanked today, it took longer for the novacaine to kick in than the extraction ! The vicodin is kicking in now, i feel ok:smoke:

24. The recovery time might not be as bad as you think.
I had my 4 wisdom teeth surgically removed on a Friday afternoon, and was back at school on Monday morning.
