I just saw "The Village"
Anyone else?

It was a bit disappointing but it had some real clever and thought-provoking elements to it.

I won't say too much, don't want to ruin anything.

Ron Howard's daughter is amazing in it!!

1. Me too. It sucked.

Actually, there werew a few good points, just a lot of bad ones.

It was beautiful to look at -- cinematography was perfect, and MNS knows how to frame a picture as well as maintain suspense.

But I figured out the secret surprise ending in about 10 minutes. Maybe 5. This is saying something, as I'm a fucking moron. I was surprised by the original plot of Friday 13th Part 9, so if I think a movie's predictable, there's a serious problem.

The acting at points was weak as well.

"Signs," though, is one of my all-time favorites (top five, definitely). Straight Hitchcock territory.

2. Yes, it was predictable
And yes it was beautiful to look at.

I thought William Hurt's performance was very uneven.

Signs was great but I liked Sixth Sense better.

3. Sixth Sense didn't have the re-playability
Signs was a masterpiece, perfect in every way. Direction, acting...you know what it REALLY had going for it? It was a total throwback to the "good ol' days" of moviemaking. I was on the edge of my seat AN HOUR before we even saw a glimpse of the bad guy -- and even when he was finally revealed, there was no violence shown. Scaring someone entirely with mood is a talent. "Village" was good in that it didn't rely on WETA or ILM to scare us, either: it was au naturale.

I found fault more with Sigourney Weaver's performance. Though I was surprised that she was even in it (I go out of my way to avoid info like that), her acting was at best forced. Remember the part towards the end where she almost gets together with Hurt's character? Transparent.

Was that really Ron Howards' daughter? Which one, the blind girl or her sister? Both were played wonderfully.

Music and sound were fantastic as well.

It was a lot like "Unbreakable." Not bad, exactly, but not great either. This guy has the opposite problem of Star Trek movies: his odd numbered ones are better than his even numbered ones.

4. The blind girl is Howard's daugther
Yeah, I you can only watch Sixth Sense once.

I also agree The Village was like Unbreakable.
You want to like it so much more than you actually do.

But it was also kind of like Signs for the reasons that you mentioned above.

5. Wanna hear something really bad?
I don't really want to see the movie, but I would like to know the twist ending.

12. Tell me...I hated the last two films
My guess: it's not in the 1800's...but modern day or on another planet.

15. A lot of the setup in "The Village" is a commentary on the conditions
we are living in right now in the U.S. of A. I mean, watch the news this weekend, eh?

16. I thought it was great!
Better than Bourne fer sure

But more cerebral and spooky in many ways than signs

We all jumped out of our skins a few times.

It is NOT for the hollywood weaned -- much too artistic. Kinda like "The Others". Quiet and moody.

Howard's daughter had me spellbound. Adrien Brody was awesome. Phoenix too.

and I did NOT quite figure it out. Twists were effective, fun, eery and creepy.

It is a serious social commentary for those who look deep.

I want to see it again.

18. I just got home from the theater.
I would have enjoyed the movie more if the people around me would have just SHUT UP. I even had to ask if they had reserved all the seats in my section in order to better amuse themselves. The reply was "No, dude, it's for anyone". I'm a middle aged woman; in no way am I a dude.

Please, anyone who cares, some of us pay money to watch the film. Have your social hour and a half elsewhere. You do not need to yell "Dude, this sucks", and "Dude, I just saw this yesterday" and "Dude, get me a Coke", and "Dude, ha ha ha you just stumbled on the stairs". It's so fucking hilarious, and then your idiot friends can laugh really loud to prove they are having more fun than you!

So very hip, and yet so clueless were my theater-mates.

I'm disgusted, but not with the movie. With idiot theater patrons.
