Weird phobias your pet has?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 10:04 PM by MisterP
My sister's dog Lily's afraid of barbecues and tall middle-aged men with non-short hair, flees at the sight of rakes moving, and growls at billowing curtains (she was an outdoor dog before we got her from Riverside, Calif.).

1. Little Yorkie who hates big black dogs. Any onther dog no matter
the size or color is fine, but he just wants to eat every big black dog he sees.

2. When the pizza man knocks on the door,
six cats scatter! Heaven help the woman with a cat sleeping in her lap at that moment. Nothing activates cat claws faster than fear hitting during a dead sleep.

Petey and Toby are afraid of strangers. I think that has something to do w/ that their mama was feral. They're almost three, and Petey has just this year started showing his face to visitors. I don't think a visitor will EVER see Toby.

4. Simba is deathly afraid of our 65" TV
He slinks by it, glancing at it 4-5 times, and walks all the way around the room to avoid passing directly in front of it to go through the cat flap to his food bowl. He also heads for the hills whenever the doorbell rings.

Monty hates vacuum cleaners and anything large he perceives as coming at him and threatening him (suitcases, bookbags and the like). He will hiss and run away, turning to look at the offending object.

10. My Izzy
My Lab-Dalmatian Mix will not go over a rope, hose or electrical cord. She will stand there and whine until I move it out of her way. She has no problems leaping over the furniture but those long slinky electrical cords just freak her out

11. My Pit-Mix, Kyra
is afraid of the heat duct grates on the floor. She won't step on them and if one of her toys ends up on one she'll sit there and whine until I pick it up off it and give it to her.

13. We just found out Max
our 'giant Pomeranian' (shelter dog -- looks like a Pom on steroids), who usually is frightened of nothing, can't handle a turn in the stairs. He went up the stairs to my bro's apartment fine, came down the first flight fine, but there's a sort of fanned landing before the last set of steps. Max set his feet and almost whined -- we had to pick him up and move him to the straight flight of stairs. He was fine, after that.

We have a yellow tabby cat who freaks out over strange sounds on the stereo. When we first brought him home from the shelter, he'd slink in front of the speakers like he was afraid of them. He must have lived outside most of his life, before he wound up in the shelter -- that's the only explanation I have.

We also have a tortie who's a rescue -- showed up at my mom's house -- who is scared witless of the sound of kids' voices. Adult voices don't freak her out nearly as badly, but she'll sit near the door and growl if she can hear kids playing outside.

21. My dog almost ate a Jehovah's Witness once...
I mean, she wasn't listening to me at all, standing on her hind legs with her paws on the screen door growling and barking at the religious nutjob that had dared to knock on the door.

I said, I'm sorry, "my dog is atheist". Then I shut the door.

She's a great dog. I call her my 'Yellow Dog Democrat.'

22. My cat Clancy is absolutely TERRIFIED of my exercise mat
He ping-pongs around the room and hides as soon as I bring it out. It's a nice one that folds in three and the only thing I can think of is at the farm I used to keep it standing up on a chest and one day when I came home from work it was on the ground; I think perhaps Clancy knocked it down on top of him and thinks he was attacked. :o
