John Henry Johnson letter: The bad guys want Kerry as president
The Forum
Published Sunday, July 25, 2004

Everybody is wondering why the Iranians and the North Koreans are not negotiating a nuclear treaty. They are waiting to see who is elected president this next election.

If Bush is re-elected, they will talk. If Kerry is elected, all they see is another Jimmy Carter and will stall us to death. Remember ol' 444 days Jimmy? They see Kerry as being soft and easy to muscle.

By the way, if Hillary Clinton runs for president, will she nominate Ken Starr as her VP? Ho, ho.

John Henry Johnson

Detroit Lakes, Minn.

And there are more people like this walking around loose in the area.

1. Speaking as Someone who lives in Korea
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 09:09 AM by rpannier
and spends a lot of time focusing on North Korea (It is my job to do so) I can honestly say that mr john henry johnson of Michigan is full of crap. There was a lot of nervousness on the part of North Korea after the US toppled Saddam so easily. But that fear was lost when they saw how miserably the US is handling the situation in Iraq. In addition, the lunatic kim also realizes that the US has no safe place to launch a real war attack from. North Korea's missile technology, nuclear weapons capability and artillery power could devastate most of Korea (south) and wipe out US military installations in Japan.
To mr. johnson of michigan -- you're full of crap. you have no idea what you are talking about.

5. On NK
Devils argument: Carrier-based missile attacks and long-range bombers out of Kadena would be enough to destroy NK medium-range missle sites, clearing the way for a massing of troops on mainland Japan (g-d forbid).

6. Why would they need to launch these from Kadena
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 09:51 AM by Art_from_Ark
way the bleep down in Okinawa, when they've got Misawa just across the pond, so to speak, and Yokota not too much farther away.

Also, I don't know what you mean by "clearing the way for a massing of troops on mainland Japan". Whose troops are you referring to? NK? No way would they try that -- it'd be too hard to hide the build-up, and the boats in their rustbucket flotilla that weren't sunk by the Japanese would probably sink on their own.

7. Off the top of my head
With the prospect of medium-range missile attacks on major US installations on Kyushu and Honshu the logical solution would be to fly out of Okinawa.

As for a troop build-up, I meant US troops. I'll admit to being an amateur in war gaming so I'll defer to somebody who understands these things a bit better.

8. I don't think they have the accuracy
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 08:26 PM by Art_from_Ark
They have shown accuracy only up to about 60km-- about the distance from my home to Tokyo Station. I think even Saddam's Dud Missiles were a little more reliable than that. The Tepodan missile the North Koreans launched over Japan a few years ago was like a giant bottle rocket-- impressive, but not much way to steer it. But the bu$hies' constant trumpeting of NK as a "threat" helps to keep people in fear and sell more weapons-- which is, after all, the name of their game.
