I need computer help!!!
I use Internet Explorer 6.0 (and don't want to change). It is acting REALLY slow. Takes a long time to scan down a page (especially with threads or links). I've done disk defragmenting, only have a fe programs running, have done virus/worm checks, I have spyware software, checked for Sobig virus. What am I missing? Help?

1. Try this...
Click on Start (lower left corner), choose "Windows Update"

See if there are any critical updates for you.

I doubt if that'll fix it, but it's alwasy a good place to start.

2. Could it be your Internet connection?
How do your programs run when you're not on the internet?

4. if you're on a dsl connect, try power cycling the modem.
Just shut the modem down for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. Couldn't hurt to reboot your computer while your at it. Also, try deleting your temporary internet files by selecting Tools>Internet Options. On the General tab, click on the Delete Files button.

5. Also....you can do this
When you're in Internet Explorer:

Go to "Tools"
"internet Options"
"Settings" (halfway down on right)
On "Amount of disk space to use"...set it to 1 MB

6. Here is a suggestion...
Hi, after this, you will have to retrieve your passwords for, say, the New York Times, etc., as you will be clearing cookies, but this gets rid of a lot of old cookies, etc.:

Start, programs, accessories, MS-DOS prompt.
cd\windows, after you are on C. So it is: C:\WINDOWS>

deltree downlo~1
enter y when it asks you y/n?

deltree tempor~1
enter y when it asks you y/n?

deltree history
enter y when it asks you y/n?

deltree cookies
enter y when it asks you y/n?

You are clearing your Internet history and cookies. You may have to write to media outlets, if you forgot your password to say, the Los Angeles Times.

:)-Lori

7. Got ZoneAlarm?
Blocking all those nasty port probers did TONS to speed up my surfing.

Also, empty your browser cache, and kill the temp files other non-Net programs leave lying around (MSWord is the biggest offender; it can leave hundreds of ~WSxxxxx.TMP files in a single session).
