Oh, the Warren Hayes/Dave Matthews Band version of "Cortez the Killer"...
... moves my very being. Thank you, Warren, and thank you, Dave Matthews Band.

I'm listening to Dave Matthews Band Central Park Concert right now, and Warren is rockin' my gypsy soul...

1. Warren Rocks, Can't wait to see him with the Dead in August.
The Dead have been quite outspoken against the Bu$h regime this year. At Bonnaroo, Bob Weir called upon the crowd of 90,000 to checkout Move On and to register to vote. He is leading a voter reg drive to get 100,000 heads registered.

4. I've been bouncing since I put it on.
Something about this album just screams "IT'S SUMMER! ENJOY YOURSELF" to me.

For some reason, it takes jammin' like this to knock some sense into my thick political skull, ya know? :D

5. I'm searching for it on Rhapsody, to no avail.
:-(

I love Matthew Sweet, and haven't listened to him in years. Thanks to your suggestion, I think I'll dig out that old copy of "Girlfriend." :D

6. Check out the Gov't Mule version
It's on "Live...With a Little Help From Our Friends". It was recorded before Allen Woody died. Be careful. For some reason there's two versions of the the disc with the same name. It's on the box (4-disc)set.

It's expensive, about $50, but worth it.

I just ordered the Dave Matthews in Central Park disc. I can't wait to hear it.

7. Oh, good, an opening for my Gov't Mule story!
Edited on Wed Jul-21-04 06:10 PM by VolcanoJen
Saw them, summer of '98 I think, in Bradenton, Florida. I was on vacation in Siesta Key, saw it in the paper, and had to make the trip.

Probably the fifth time I'd seen them, but the first time in an intimate venue no larger than the local downtown pub. Amazing show, and Woody blew my mind.

After the show, I hung around outside their bus, and finally got a roadie's attention. "I'm here from Cincinnati, and I just want to say hi." He went into the bus, and moments later, Warren came out, smiled, posed for a few photos, and chatted me up for almost a half-hour.

Warmest, sweetest rock-guy ever. And I never got to meet Woody, but I hope he rests sweetly in Bass Heaven. :-)

Thanks for the suggestion of the Gov't Mule version, Peaches! Have you heard the DMB version with Warren, too? It's frankly kick-ass.

12. I know all about the DMB-haters, and I just don't get it.
Their music is the music of fun, peace, summer, joy, love. It's not corporate retread garbage; it's a fresh breath of air, even if the band is over 10 years old.

Plus, Dave Matthews is on our side politically! He's been a fervent spokesman against the Iraq war from the beginning, going so far as to piss off his Warehouse Fan Club Members by posting a very anti-war message just before "Shock and Awe" began. He recently appeared at the Annual John Kerry Whoopi Goldberg Memorial Hate Fest, although, who noticed? :-)

I'll always love the Dave Matthews Band, as will the myriad of talented artists who enjoy jamming with him.

13. Yup, yup, yup.....and (schlocky moment)...
...in addition to the whole peace/love vibe (although, they've got some pretty harsh anti-corporate, anti-consumerism tunes, too), their video for "Everyday" chokes me up every time I watch the damn thing. Those who want to see it--it's on the DMB website.

Whatta cool buncha guys.

14. Chokes me up, too, Shakespeare.
I hate to be a total DMB FanGirl, but honestly, it's high time DUers gave this band a break.

For a start, try listening to that gorgeous version of "Cortez the Killer." :-)
