13. that's part of their charm...
...although not all Siamese are vocal, and not all vocal ones are loud. One of ours is absolutely silent unless she's having a negative interaction with another cat, and the other three are quite vocal rarely loud. Their vocalizations are simply a direct way of interacting. We used to have a Siamese cat we could hear out on the street (he was inside the house) when we got out of the car-- he was loud.

2. I had two Siamese cats.
I had to get rid of one of them because he just wouldn't shut up. It was tolerable when we didn't have kids but after the children came it just wasn't working out.

3. I voted for the "Wedgehead", but I like odd-looking animals...
I enjoy uniqueness. Bigger than usual, smaller than usual, really ugly, just odd-looking...that's the pet I'd prefer.

4. Not sure if I can vote for either.
We just lost out little Russian Blue (named Prairie Dog) due to lung problems. Our MaineCoon is doing just (named Hellaflump, was heffalump, but our daughter transposed the consanents) even at the age of 15.

I'd share their pics, but not sure if i have them on this pc
:hi:

15. rest in peace, Prairie Dog
I've seen a couple of Russian Blues: beautiful, beautiful cats! I'm sorry for your loss, Madinmaryland.

5. My parents had a traditional Siamese
for many years who just passed away last year. They got a Balinese kitten and he is beautiful, similar coloring, but thinner and with a plume tail. He is alos quieter than Max was (although I loved Max, he was a sweetie!).

Our cats are rescues, I can't see spending $400 on a kitten when there are so many that need homes. They are beautiful, though.:-)

12. three of my four Siamese cats are rescues...
...and the fourth is the son of one of the rescues. Mine are local rescues, but there is also a nationwide Siamese cat rescue network-- google "Siamese rescue" for a truely heart melting experience. It's hard to believe that anyone could abandon some of those cats.

6. I have two of them and did not know what I had
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 07:59 PM by baldearg
until they grew up.

One is all white (1/2 siamese) and is an albino and has one blue eye and one green eye and also has the skin cancer that goes with being all white. However, she is now 10 years old. She meows VERY loud.

The other one was all white when I got him from an animal rescue and I thought he was a white cat with orange ears.

He grew up and became a Flamepoint siamese and is a big 17 lb. beautiful cat indeed and yep, he has a big loud mouth too.

I think they are both "Appleheads" perhaps - ?

I :loveya: all anyway!!!

Cheers!!! :D

7. Had two appleheads while I was growing up

"Sugar" looked just like the one on your photo. Her daughter "Cocoa" was a chocolate point so she was paler.

I have a cat now that I am certain is Sugar reincarnated.

but that has nothing to do with your question.

I like the graceful look of some of the wedgehead siamese but prefer the other.

8. Has anyone had a MaineCoon?
Very big, but very affectionate cats. Though at times he seems to be a dog in a cat suit. He loves to eat.

20. Yes I had one - He shed everywhere and also had some disgusting bad habits
like pooping and peeing in the bathtub - it's hell on old porcelain. But I was sad when he dropped dead at my feet one day. He liked to sit in men's laps and purr loudly. I think he may have been gay.

9. Siamese are awesome!
But I prefer 'Applehead'.

'Wedgehead' is interesting and dates back to Egyptian times (IMHO) and has the royal appearance, but Applehead is more adoreable... Besides, Wedgehead reminds me of Sutekh! :D

11. ok, now you've set me off....
I am a sucker for cats of any stripe, but the zenith of cat perfection is the applehead Siamese. Others might disagree, but they're wrong. I am willing to indulge moral relativism in most things, but not in Siamese cat breeding. The "modern" Siamese cat is an aberration of nature, a freak conjured in the demented imagination of breeders seeking to produce Bat Boy's cat. The applehead is the One True Siamese. There are four of them prowling around here and I am their love slave. All our base are belong to them.

14. We have four Siamese cats
in our home, so should I say the cats let us live here.

Our oldest, Honky Cat, rules the household. She is a seal point Balinese, long hair, plume tail, extremely intelligent, loyal, and vocal. Her brother, Benny Balls, (same parents, a year younger) has a head that is more wedge shaped, and is an extremely mellow fellow.

The two others were rescues from a shelter that my wife and I do volunteer work for.

Mini Moo, is a petite tortie point who came to us scared and undernourished, is now a very healthy happy cat, but still only weighs about five pounds. We refer to her as "The Lucky Lotto Cat" because she hit the kitty lotto when she came to live with us.

Our most recent rescue, Chunky Bear, was turned in to the shelter when his elderly owners could not care for him any longer. Chunky is a traditional Apple head, with a very husky body. Even though he still has some issues, we continue to work with him. He has become a part of our family

Appleheads all the way! My own kitty is an old-style. He came to me out of the blue as a stray. I completely adore the (not so)little guy.

19. Siamese (Appleheads) are the only cat I'll have.....
after a long love-affair with the sweetest male seal-point in the 1980s......

I have a young Jack Russell Terrier now after my old one died in February, and after the holidays I plan on looking for a Siamese or 2 to adopt from a shelter, if Bonnie will accept them, that is.....
