I'm a truck driver and every so often I have to switch trailers. This is known as drop and hook. When the trailers are dropped they have legs that support the front of the trailer. To get these legs to go up and down there is a crank on the side of the trailer. Usually the crank is relatively easy to operate, but today I came across one that was being really stubborn. So here I am cranking and I'm putting a lot of muscle into it and that's making me tired so I let go of the handle to take a rest and the damn thing snapped back in the opposite direction in which I was cranking. This wouldn't have been a big deal had my face not been in the way. The crank hit me in the mouth between my nose and upper lip. I thought I was going to die for about 30 seconds. I've got two cuts above my upper lip and the left side of my upper lip swelled up like a ballon. I make Cheney's sneer look attractive. I hope this doesn't scar. Oh well, if it does then maybe I'll be regarded for my rugged good looks. ;)
Although the cuts bled for about a half hour. I've had to get stitches before so I knew that these weren't serious enough to get them. My pain killer right now is a couple of brewskies. I'm very glad this didn't require medical attention because I've just sarted back full time on the job and I have to wait until September for benefits. I guess worker's comp would have covered it.
edit: Thanks for the props. We truckers need all we can get now-a-days as we aren't regarded by many to be something to look up to.
I got blasted in the mouth with a phone and my upper lip was split all the way through. I used the above and have a very faint scar. I swear by vitamin E.
Apply ice 4 x day if possible until swelling is down. Apply vitamin E after 7 days until scabs are gone.
