Eastwood, Spielberg Mull Iwo Jima Project
NEW YORK -- Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg reportedly are joining forces to bring the World War II battle of Iwo Jima to the big screen.

According to TV Guide, Eastwood will direct an adaptation of the book "Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima" for Spielberg's company DreamWorks.

The book was written by James Bradley -- whose father was one of the six soldiers who raised the flag at Iwo Jima -- and Ron Powers.

3. Thanks, he died in 1986 due to emphysema
brought about by a smoking habit he started when he joined the Marines.

5. My Uncle/Godfather was a Marine at Iwo Jima. I was very close to him.
He was the reason I joined the Corps.

He too died of emphysema. I was honored to have given his eulogy.

Semper fi.

4. I hope they do cover the Pacific theatre of the war...
I had two great uncles that died there. One was on the USS Quincy - part of "the lost fleet of Guadalcanal", the other died in the battle of Leyte Gulf. They both died within a year of each other, I can't imagine how devestated my Greatgrandparents were....

6. Not to be a PIA but did the article really refer to Bradley as a "soldier"
He was a Navy Hospital Corpsman. The last thing we Navy types want to be called is a "soldier".
