Anyone know about Baseball cards/collecting?
I have a friend who knows nothing really about eBay or any on line communties or selling methods. He has a massive collection of maybe 2 million cards, including what I can only imagine are some high ticket items (a lot of worthless crap as well, I'm sure). He would love to unload the thing in one large lot or even several different lots.

Is eBay the best method for this or is there some other community that would cater more directly to the market for baseball cards?

If it would be reasonably easy to sell this stuff for a reasonable price I'll do it for him since I'm more familiar with online auctions and such. He's really just looking to get rid of them and probably would even go well below market value.

Thanks in advance.

1. I would sell on a collectors site first
Also is he selling the cards as a collection ?
Is he cherry picking (selling the top cards seperately )?
After he has the collection on collect sites
he can go back and advertise the collection is then selling on ebay .
Thats what I usually do when I have an entire collection of any sort.

2. If he could sell all at once he'd prefer that...
However, I'm not sure if such an unweildy number would be of interest to anyone or if he'd even be able to list every single card. He could obviously list all the top tier ones so people knew what they were getting though.

3. What years are they....
from? If the bulk of the cards are from the 50's and 60's the man is sitting on a fortune. If he has some of the big name rookie cards he can make some serious cash by cherry picking the stars and selling the rest in bulk to a dealer. Condition is everything. With a collection so large he needs expert advice. Contact a reliable dealer through one of the trade publications and go from there. Just an aside 2,000,000 cards at a penny apiece are worth $20,000.

5. He might want to consult Beckett's to get a feel for what the cards are
worth.

He also might try combining cards from the same years and manufacturer and sell them as lots.

6. That was my thinking....
I get the feeling he is sitting on a gold mine but he doesn't have the time, patience or internet know how to be bothered with it. I am offering to help him out but my knowledge of sports and/or sports collectibles is next to nil.

But I'm still ticked at this friend for selling a rather large collection of valuable punk/hardcore records for nothing at a local store rather than bidding them out on ebay or something. So I don't want him to make the same mistake twice. Especially since I think his collection could be worth thousands.
