Dishwasher Cycle Question
Okay. So, I turn on my dishwasher and it starts making a grinding and vibrating noise. Then, I'm like, "Oops, I forgot to put this spoon in the dishwasher." I open the door to put the spoon in and the dishwasher is doing nothing. No water spraying; no nothing. Nothing but the noise.

What is my dishwasher doing when I first turn it on?

1. if you are talking about what it NORMALLY
does, mine does a little dump of any leftover or spilled water and gunk before filling - most modern dishwashers have a garbage disposal type grinder as well - this is what mine does.

2. That was my first thought
That it was grinding up any leftover food that made its way down to the drain. But I had no way of knowing for sure.

I hope some professional can confirm this.

Thanks, Kali.

5. don't worry about it
unless water starts running all over the place - did it go ahead and wash then?

You may have had a chunk of bone, eggshell or some dried crunchy thing that made extra noise.

3. it's clearly posessed
run a cycle of holy water through it and that should take care of the noise.
