So what does everybody have planned for the 4th?
My wife and I are going down to San Angelo and meeting my in-laws. We are going to take in the Pops Concert there and the fireworks.

Can't wait, a 4 day weekend.

2. 1/3 of 1/5 for 1/4
I have a really olde scotch that has been gathering dust for half a century. A gift from an art critic who loved my stuff.

I plan to crack it open. Inside rests a single malt, 23 yrs in the barrel, so, the combo is older than mois.

that, and hugging my honey and making more art.

33. The easist most elegant looking desert you could ever make.
the secret is right on the package of "Famous Chocolate Wafers" if you can find those you can experience Zebra Cake.

sometimes these flat thin 3 inch diameter cookies are in the cookie section of a grocery store, sometimes they hide them near the icecream things - by the cones and chocolate syrups. Pretty sure they are a Nabisco product, come in a thin cardboard tray with celophane wrap over - you can actually see the product, stacked in one long row of 25 - 30 wafers I'm thinking the basic background color on the paper is yellow but that could be wrong. They make good "bread" for ice cream sandwiches too.

basically you make a row of these cookies with whipped cream between them and then frost with more, freeze or refrigerate for a couple hours, thaw then slice at a 45 degree angle and it makes this dramatic black and white striped "cake". yummy

35. LOTS the whole weekend!
Mrs. Venation's niece and a friend are driving up from Tennessee on Wednesday. Thursday they'll ride to work in DC with us, and we'll drop them on the Mall so they can be tourists. Friday we're having a big cookout. Saturday -- ??? No plans yet. Sunday we're going to the Kennedy Center to see "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (matinee), then we'll drop the girls on the Mall for the festivities there & pick them up at the end of the night.

Can't wait to see the niece! She's the apple of Mrs. V.'s eye (and I kinda like her, too.)
