5. Rock n Roll has had its rules broken
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 06:50 PM by jpgray
It seems every time someone comes along and breaks all the rules successfully and in a genius way, having no boundaries makes all those late-comers who use that freedom just SUCK. Happened with classical music--people retreat into retroism that lacks the genius and originality it tries to imitate (Minimalists, White Stripes, Strokes et al) or descend further into worthless and unenjoyable experimentation.

So we need something that still has strict rules. Like the polka, for example--we need a polka craze.

8. There's been one for a couple months now - where have you been?
;-)

Seriously though, man do I agree with you on those three bands you mentioned. Whenever I here people my age make a fuss about them I always say "You mean those guys that think they're the stooges?"

No one knows the stooges anymore.

15. Yeah.
It's up to our kids' kids. I'd love to say "they'll all appreciate Radiohead for the geniuses they are", but that's as delusional as saying my grandma has any say over my taste in music. My kids' kids will only want to hear their peers, and who knows what their peers will be doing.

Mr. Newspaper man. :-)

And to answer your question, god, who knows. Probably more world music fusion, I bet lots of styles will be mixed together just like is happening now, probably things will be highly electronic also. Interesting question.

27. Linkin Park will be considered Gods of Rock
And bands like Sum 41 will be crowned classic punk rock as bands like The Dead Kennedys and the Adicts are forgotten. Lars Ulrich of Metallica will be in his bed at a high priced nursing home, railing against file sharing, even though it is the main way by which people get music.

29. Not a bloody clue.
If you had asked a music fan in 1954 what pop music would be like in 50 years, could he have accurately predicted the musical landscape of 2004? I seriously doubt it!

Besides, 50 years from now, I'll either be dead or too old to give a shit. ;)

34. Went to grad school at Tulane in New Orleans, 25 years ago and
there were wonderful radio stations. Then lived in the vast wasteland of the South for many years. Moved to Atlanta about 5 years ago and was looking forward to big city music and the whole dial is crap, crap, crap. One little station by Ga. Tech with student announcers. I discussed this with a friend who lives in San Francisco, about the crappy Atlanta radio station. She said two words: Clear Channel. Every good musician is selling CD's out of their trunk and word of mouth is the only way any more.
