Hi...I'm having a nervous breakdown! Help!
Hi folks....It seems that my recent breast cancer scare has led me into a full blown anxiety laden nervous breakdown...I have been a wreck for two weeks now, and have convinced myself that I am terminally ill and have become completely paralyzed by terror and anxiety. I am consulting with my doctor, trying to get the tests that will prove to my brain that I am not dying of an unseen terminal cancer, and have began seeing a counselor as of today. I'm in a really bad way essentially, barely making it day to day.

I don't really want to talk about it all in detail right here in the lounge, but if any other DUers with similar experiences/anxiety problems could drop me a pm, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks peeps... :grouphug:

Want others to see.

My wife went through a similar scenario. To her, every sneeze was a sign of some terminal disease. She had a mild breakdown. We were at the doctor getting something checked out (can't even remember anymore) and I told the Doctor, privately, some of the things that had been going on in her life, some of her medical history, etc...

Anyway, she was put on Zoloft for 3 months and voila, a new person. A lot of shit was going on all at once, and I think it got to be too much to handle. Just needed a little help.

This was a couple of years ago, and not a single hint of a return of this anxiety has surfaced.

Good luck to you, and if you'd like to talk to her, I'd be glad to put her in touch with you.

6. Please try to find a qualified meditation teacher... to help you train
your mind not to associate negative emotions with your thoughts.

the negative thoughts and emotions are very destructive to your immune system.. you and others in similar situations can get a good start at www.buddhanet.net .. they have a good video instruction and also audio instruction in Buddhanet Audio section

I recommend a tape set called "When Things Fall Apart".. this is a WONDERFUL work by Pema Chodron, a Tibetan Buddhist Nun. I quit drinking within weeks of getting this tape set.. it explained a lot to me about why i was a hardcore alcoholic for 35 years, and severely depressed for years.. i had given up any hope of sobriety.. i am now clean and sober for 4 years.

check to see if there are support groups in your area...

7. Been there! I know exactly how you feel. If it makes you feel better..
They kept be going back over and over for new xrays. I was like, isn't this dangerous!!!! That was about three years ago. I'm still alive and I don't have breast cancer.
