Poll question: Have you had cicadas where you are?
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 10:00 AM by mvd
Cicadas have neen in certain parts of the Philly area (South Jersey, Chester County,) but I have seen none here. Fortunately, I am just a little too far north.

1. I'm damned bummed, too!
I've always wanted to see one. We hear them in the trees every once in a while and I just wanted to see one.

8. My relatives in northern Kentucky have them
I know they are harmless, but they are loud and do pounce. I'd have a sense of humor about them, but I'm still glad I missed them. :-)

3. I'm getting sick of the little bastards...
Here in Indiana, they're all over the place. They were cool at first, but now they just piss me off.

Here's a pic of one:

See? They're hideous!!

12. Yep, a lot uglier and tons more harmful
And they last longer. I've had them for 3 1/2 years, and they won't go away until November. :-(

5. Nope.... We only get our annual migration of Miller's Moths out west...
And while we find their dessicated carcasses in cars, windowsills, and cabinets for months thereafter, at least they aren't noisy (and aren't the kind of moths that eat clothing)

11. We get Japanese Beetles, quiet but destructive as hell.
They can reduce a bush to twigs in one afternoon. Hey, that sounds pretty good, actually!

6. A ton of them.
Less now, but a couple weeks ago people were wiping their feet to keep cicada corpse chunks off of the carpet.

18. Yup! Though they're mostly gone now, and I'm sad
I love the little buggers... they were so neat! I actually picked a lot of them up (if they were alive) to get them out of the road, etc. They were all very low key. Occasionally a brrrrrrt! when you first picked one up, then it'd just hang out, and let you look into its beady red eyes.

Seriously, though, they were very cool, and I will miss them.
