I got a tatoo!
A dreamcatcher on my left shoulderblade. Saturday night.

I've been talking about it for several years but I finally did it!

1. Excellent ... hope you enjoy
That's cool for our yuts. <g> I don't have one but I'm 45 y.o. What makes me laugh are all the "old farts" my age and older getting tattoos now. <snicker> Gee, if you're over 45 y.o., I take it all back. <blush> Well, I take some of this back. :P

But to level with you, us mature folks are setting the most RAD fashion statement by NOT getting a tattoo, i.e., I have no desire to recapture my youth save for a stray bad attitude (or two) and resentment of arrogant authority figures. ;)

16. I have six tattoos
and I'm 44. I got the first one when I was 38. It is not a "fashion statement" - all my tattoos are very meaningful to me, and other people's opinion of them is not relevant.

The biggest difference between tattooed people and people without tattoos? People with tattoos don't care that you don't have any.

18. I understand and respect your decision ...
No, it's no dig. An aquaintence of mine removes tattoos and in the best case scenario, removal still leaves a scar. Some folks love body art, that's cool. It just ain't my dance. As long as you don't mind what "others" think, you're a braver woman than me. Sincere kudos, I don't have the courage nor desire. It's honestly something I can't understand but please know, I do not disrespect your choice.

Please cut me a break because I'm a content old broad with my physically fit yet aging body. Perhaps if I would have started tattooing at 38 y.o. I'd think differently. <warm smile>

2. Don't you just love it?
I got my first tatoo in college, with a bunch of friends. It was boring becasue it was just a little flower on my hip. At graduation we all went again and then I got a "flower ankle bracelet" and finally I went all out and got one that wraps around my arm.

I have to stop with those three! But I do love my tatoos. They are classy as far as tats go and I just love them!

Are you thinking of another one now? That is what happened to me! I am sure you will be happy with it!

7. be careful -
Better to get them on parts of the body that can be covered with ordinary clothing, especially business attire. Many employers, business clients and other contacts judge people by first appearance, and tattoos have a certain negative history. Remember also, girlfriends and boyfriends can change, even spouses. Otherwise, have fun!

10. Mine are all easily covered.
My ankle tattoo is the exception.

I never have, ever will put a name tattoo on my body.

Before I became a permanent piddler and decided to stay home with my kids, I was fortunate enough to have a successful professional career, tattoos and all!

(By many of my friends own admissions, they don't think I "look like the type who would have a tattoo, let alone 3! So I guess in my case, looks can be deceiving!)

13. I already have the next one picked out.
It's a heart with a rose. I'm going to put it on my ankle. I won't ever get a name either. But, I was thinking of getting an "H" inside the heart. That's my last initial.

15. Thanks!
My hubby started it all. My daughter and I took my grandma to visit her sister and were gone for eleven days. So, he got the first one while we were gone.

3. What's it like?
Does it hurt really bad? I have always wanted one, but I'm such a weenie when it comes to pain. My sister has two and my mom has one, but they are braver than I am. Congratulations!

4. Here's how it feels
I have a small tattoo on my arm...and to me it felt like being scratched by a cat over and over...the pain was cumulative and you need a break every once in a while!

6. Mine didn't hurt that bad!
For me, the only time it hurt was on my ankle when they were putting my tat directly over my ankle bone. Other then that, it didn't hurt so bad. Believe me, I am a weenie too!

17. I got mine last September (a Kokopelli on the left side of my chest)
It felt like a scratch with a toothpick for the first five minutes. After that, the endorphins kicked in and I barely felt it at all (except for over the ribs near my sternum, when it felt like a scratch again).

My ex and I went together (she had her navel pierced and I got my tattoo). When she asked which would hurt more, her piercer told her mine would, by far.

...turns out he was right. I barely felt anything, but she felt absoultely nothing.

8. My ex-husband had my name tattooed on his arm.
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 10:22 AM by RebelOne
We were divorced and he married twice. I bet his wives made him wear a bandage over my name. I know I would.

23. Just a tat kick to see what else turns up here...
Some of the most interesting people I've known turned out to have art...whether it was apparent or not.

I just want to see if this thread will draw any out of the woodwork.
