9. Revel in the quiet
Appliances make a lot of racket!

I peeked at your profile and noticed that you're in MD. I'm near College Park. I was at a grocery store in Bowie with my little boy when the storm hit at about 5 pm. I was frightened when I looked out the storefront window...it looked like a tornado sky. We saw some incredible lightning activity too. I told my son to stay close, because I had visions of a collapsed roof.

When we got to the checkout, it had been pouring for a good 15 minutes. It continued pouring for another 10 minutes after that. We just waited inside the store, since I wouldn't have had enough visibility to drive safely anyway. Besides, the lightning was fierce!

It was, "Ah, I'd better hurry up and order take out. The monsters are hungry and the last thing I need is a revolt." :scared:

17. Generator here too...
Fire it up and watch TV.

I live in a rural area and lose electric often. I know if the interuptions are widespead, my area is a low priority for the electric company to restore.

Last year, in the middle of the night during a snow storm, a fuse blew out on the pole and only my house and two other neighbors were affected. I reported the problem, and when the repairman showed up he was a bit confused because we had lights and were watching TV.

We live in an area prone to flooding, so it's nice to be able to run the sump pump if the powers out too!!

Best investment I've made....

18. I live in a fairly urban area
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 08:05 AM by notadmblnd
and up until bush was installed in the Whitehouse, I hadn't lost power in over 20 years. Since 2001 I can't count the times I've lost power. Last spring it was out for over a week. My husband caught pneumonia after that and was hospitalized with it 3 times before he died. I took some of the insurance money and had the generator and transfer switch installed.

I think the power company is indirectly responsible for his death though I could never prove it in court. All I can say is, I hope these M-F'ers that run and manipulate the power companies get to wake up someday and find the person they love, lying next to them dead in their sleep.

listen to the radio (on battery power) and play "shadow monsters" with Ian. I also read or draw by candle light. Board games used to be the solution before Ian was born, but he isn't ready for scrabble with me and mom yet.

25. Does no one have a radio?
Turning on the radio is the first thing I do. If I've got female company, sex is a good option, but I want to see if a tornado is heading my way (I live in stormwatch central).
