This could be it, folks!

Can the Pistons pull it off again, or will the Lakers do the, lately, impossible?

7. a moment of appreciation for Rasheed Wallace...
This guy has some high quality reasons to love Rasheed:

http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Loge/7346
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Loge/7346/morera.html

I may be the only person left in Portland who likes Rasheed. I believe there's an inner Rasheed Wallace inside all of us, waiting to emerge and challenge the dumbass refs, take the T, and go on to blow the competition out of the water anyway.

Gawd, I HATED him when he was here.
Now that he's a Piston, and they're winning, I have
zero problem loving him and rooting for him to win.

It's really weird.

17. I don't think PDXers understood Sheed's sense of humor or his passion
That, really, was the problem. His penchant for getting the Ts would have been okay, if the fan base grokked it from his point of view. Now that Bonzi and Sheed are gone, Portland has a rather bland team of joyless mercenaries, who will probably get drummed out in the first round of the playoffs for next three seasons.

20. If they make it to the playoffs with the way that
Paul Allen has been tightening the purse strings.

I long for the good old says of Drexler and Porter
and Williams and Kersey, you know? And Duckworth
and "Uncle Cliffy," of course.

As far as Rasheed is concerned, he lost me when he said
in an Oregonian interview that he "didn't care" what
anybody outside of his intimate circle thought about him.
That was in the halcyon days when he was breaking the
season technical record. I was like fine, you don't care
about us, we don't give a damn about you either.

I got my heart broke in June 2000 when they were ahead
in Game 7 by 15 or something in the Western Conference
Finals and got beat by the Lakers.

I've never gotten over it.

26. The Brian Grant trade killed the Blazers, IMHO
Wallace and Grant could have been the Dynamic Duo. Instead, Grant's languishing in Miami, and Blazers ended up with Pippen's twilight years.

Rasheed was doing everyone a favor when he laid it on the line. Most of those guys don't care what fans think about them, but Wallace was decent enough to tell the truth.

28. I agree about Grant.
He was a hard worker, but a little injury-prone. And
please, don't remind me about Pippen. I was glad to
see him leave too.

Rasheed might have been 'honest' about not giving a damn,
but if you're playing a game that requires public support
and public money, it makes sense to keep up the pretense
and have some kind of community presence, like in the
good old days. Otherwise you have a half-filled stadium
that is on the brink of bankruptcy.

I have to say that Rasheed wasn't my only peeve at the Blazers.
The way they treated Bill Schonely was just terrible, and
the Wheels and Rice combo is nothing but a homer homey
clown show. I can't stand them.

11. L.A. is dust. Henry Bibby, L.A Times guest analyst had a good take
on things in yest. paper. He commented that it was weird and seriosuly wrong that before Sunday's game, 5 Lakers (Kobi, Shaq, George, Fox, D-fish) cornered Phil in the mens room and begged him to go with them as starting team. Bibby commented that it reveals a real division among the team. I agree.

33. Unfortunately she did.
Either she's under the weather or they couldn't get the monitoring system to work properly, something I know personally she would never tolerate.
ABC obviously knew that would be the case because they had her on camera very little.

At anyrate, the PISTONS are up by 10 at halftime 55 - 45.

And just dig that fro on Big Ben Wallace. I'm all about spreading the joy around.

97. Don't.
The Lakers are whores.

If any team DESERVES to lose a championship series, it's the Lakers. Fuck 'em.

74. I think that it is time
for the talk of upset to end. The Pistons owned the series and the only real "upset" was the Lakers stealing game 2.

75. Being from Las Vegas this reminds me of the UNLV/Duke final
When was that, 1989? When UNLV clobbered Duke 103 - 73 in the NCAA final?

Kobe Bryant was as curious as anyone else when asked Monday about his promise to extend the NBA Finals past tonight's Game 5 at the Palace.

"I did?" he replied.

Well, according to the Los Angeles Times, that's what Bryant did in response to a question tendered while he made his way to the team bus Sunday night after an 88-80 loss in Game 4.

"I'm telling you right now," Bryant told the Times, "we'll win Tuesday."

The Lakers trail the Pistons, 3-1. Even if he didn't remember his promise, Bryant didn't back off Monday.

"I'll go with that, man," he said. "It's fine with me.

"We don't have a choice."

and apparently they DID have a choice (lose)

98. the articles I've read on this imply it was a typical statement
made by a player in his situation. It was not a 'guarantee' - but that doesn't make a good story so it got twisted into all this crap to make it good. Really doesn't matter anyway because those that hate Kobe are going to take it the way they want to..

CBS' Jim Hill asked Bryant, "What was the thought process that made you promise the Lakers would win ?"

Bryant had no idea what Hill was talking about. It's not uncommon, of course, to have no idea what Hill is talking about.

"I promised?" Bryant asked. "I'll go with that, man. It's fine by me. We don't have a choice. We've got to win."

When the news conference was over, Bryant agreed to another one-on-one chat. I explained that he was being asked about his promise to win, based on what he had told me the night before.

"You should have warned me," he said. "What's the big deal? Do I think we're going to win Tuesday? Duh. What do they expect me to say?

It's payback for his shameless antics in the 91' Eastern Conference Finals against Detroit. Remember the "Jordan Rules"?

79. congratulations to the nba champion pistons
They are an amazing defensive team. I've been a huge fan of Larry Brown dating back to his days at KU with Danny Manning, so it's no surprise that he got these guys motivated to just DESTROY the Lakes.

And props to Sheed! And it ain't always easy being a fan of his, mainly due to the shit people give you for it!

What happened to that boring, defense-oriented team that slow-danced with Indiana all those games? Damn.

Oh, and somebody might want to tell ABC that there isn't going to be a game Sunday night.

Darko for MVP.
