Employment opportunities are grim for me.
I really need money this summer, and I have been working my ass off this past week looking for jobs. I applied at a few fast-food places, department stores, and even a few jobs where they need dishwashers. I haven't heard a thing from anyone yet.

This really sucks. Adults are now working jobs that teens usually work at, and now, us 16-24 year olds are having difficulty finding work.

Sigh. At this point, I'd be happy to work as a rock-picker or something. At least it's a job. :(

12. It's no better in Denver
Neither of my daughters-20 and 16-has had much luck this summer. They are tired of being my house slaves and are considering some volunteer work to avoid the housework. :)

I do wish you luck. I know it's depressing, but try to hang in there and something is bound to turn up.

My college tuition is going up 14% this year...so I'm working my ass off finding work to pay for that insanely large bill.

4. Have you tried calling back about your applications?
It puts your name in the ear of the person that does the hiring. Lets them know that you are truly interested in the job. Don't call too often, though. You don't want to be a pain in the ass.

11. Well, be an adult out of work for 18 months...
Not to say that the economy isn't in the toilet. It is. And I think mostly because of globalization (read that exploitation of cheap international labor markets).

But I also have to say as someone making 1/6 of my previous wages, I'm competing with the world to try to hold 3 part time jobs so that I can make my mortgage payments, feed and cloth myself.

I hope you can find a job that will give you your previous wages.

This whole economy is in the tank. Fucking Bush. He's to blame.

13. Good luck!
Don't be discouraged! Ask your friends, your parents' friends, your relatives in the area if they've heard of something. Sometimes all it takes is someone in the know to find a job for you.

19. are you handy? . . . maybe you can make your own job . . .
a couple of kids next door just started a little summer business mowing lawns, cleaning up yards, removing brush, stuff like that . . . if you live in an area with lots of houses, maybe you could offer your services to do something similar . . . cleaning, painting, raking, whatever . . .

21. how's construction work in your area?
Construction is doing well in SoCal. Look around for some project sites, and get with the Super. They may have some grunt work available.
