Can you hear me, Major Tom?
SPACE ODDITY
Davie Bowie

Ground control to Major Tom
Ground control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may god’s love be with you

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five,
Four, three, two, one, liftoff

This is ground control to Major Tom
You’ve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare

This is major tom to ground control
I’m stepping through the door
And I’m floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do

Though I’m past one hundred thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell me wife I love her very much she knows

Ground control to major tom
Your circuit’s dead, there’s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....

Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the moon
Planet earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do.

1. 4, 3, 2, 1: Earth below us, drifting, falling, floating weightless...
...coming, coming home!

2. That's so weird
I haven't heard that song in several months. And today, my wife bought a Natalie Merchant Live album, and we listened to it in the car on the way to dinner. Merchant does a cover of Space Oddity. We were, of course, singing along, but still...weirdness....

4. OK, more really weirdness
Last night I sampled and looped "The sun machine is coming down, we're gonna have a party" ending from song In Memory of a Free Festival from the Space Oddity CD. While I had it on through the big speakers, I couldn't resist Space Oddity itself.

Cheers.

7. Yeah, that's the one I have!
English on one side, German on the other. For you kids, I'm speaking of a two-sided piece of vinyl called a 45. That's what we used to get music from in the old days.
