They were supposed to be swept, right? Did they listen to that hype? No, they spanked the Lakers at home in Game 1 and relied on a miracle for Game 2.

Sorry to say, I think the series is over and I hate the Lakers.

16. Well..
Something to consider is how well that talent has developed under his system. Alot of the champions on the Lakers and Bulls teams haven't won a championship w/o Jackson. But yeah it does help to have 2 of the best guards (MJ and Kobe) in history.

17. I think the Lakers were more solid than the Bulls were
It was only a matter of time before Shaq, Kobe et. al developed into the players they are now.

Ok, I'll give Jackson some props for molding a winner with the Bulls. Even with Jordan in the early days the Bulls were lousy. Jackson did give Jordan some support and bada bing, 6 titles.

18. Yep,
Phil's a great coach, but I don't know if I'd class Kobe as one of the 2 best guards....yet. He's damn good, don't get me wrong, but he's no MJ....yet.

Sorry, I lived in Chicago and watched MJ for 9 years. Kobe's good, but he's no comparison. Yet. Another 4 or 5 years, we'll see.

21. I'll give you that.
But, I saw a lot of MJ. He had a deep down reserve that could, for want of a better word, bitchslap any player out there. I've watched a lot of basketball. I truly think he was, just about, one of a kind.

Not to take away from Kobe. I live in East Lansing and have to hear about Magic all day, every day.

Michael was something else.

77. True enough:
But there is no one at Phil's level when it comes to pissing and moaning to the media about officiating and how rough the other teams are on his players.

He caused that debacle in 91' when the Pistons walked off the court in Chicago before the end of the game and refused to acknowledge MJ and the Bulls. Phil was like a three year old screaming about the Bad Boys treatment of Michael Jordan. That became the center of the Eastern finals as the officials invoked the "Jordan Rules" that allowed him 7 steps to the basket and any player closer than 3 feet to him constituted an automatic foul.

But you know what?

WE'RE BACK!!!

Anyway, Phuck Fil Jackson. :toast:

22. GO PISTONS!
I'm tired of Western Conference teams like the Lakers winning the championship. The Pistons, I predicted before game 1, would win the series. Everyone laughed at me except for a couple of people. But out of the last four teams (Pistons, Pacers, Lakers, Timberwolves), Detroit is definitely the best team to matchup against the Lakers. They have some big guys and great defense. Ben Wallace, Mehmet Okur, and others on the Pistons are capable of slowing down Shaq enough to win the series.

That Kobe shot was unbelievable the other night. Game 2 was a total breakdown by the Pistons in the last couple of minutes.

But I still think Detroit will win the finals. Larry Brown is by far my favorite coach in the NBA and he deserves a ring. DETROIT IN 7!

the 1985-86 Celtics beat the Bulls and then faced the 1986-87 Lakers for the Championship which the Lakers won. I guess that is legit considering both those Laker and Celtic teams were pre expansion....... anyone else miss the 80s and early 90s NBA as desperately as I do?

(I'm not quite sure how many ?'s to add)

No WAY!!!!!

72-10? Not the best?

I watched that entire season, living in Chicago. We waited weeks to see if they would lose. Weeks, I tell you. Multiple times. What the hell is wrong with these people?

I remember when this happened, the Yankees won something lik 118 games, either that year or the one after. The Bulls winning percentage would have been like 145+ games.

I lived in Chicago throughout the second 3 peat, and it was amazing. I would say, if Jordan and Jackson had stayed, they would have won at least 4 or 5 more championships.

They were really that good.

Which, out of a total of 68, isn't too out of line. Not like Game 1, where they scored 59 of the Lakers' 75. But they were the only ones in double figures.

Bad news for the Geez-er, Lakers. The Pistons are young, energetic, disciplined, and healthy.

73. Lakers, Inc.
Got spanked, is what I meant. Was that no clear?

Any day the Kobe and Shaq, Inc. get spanked is a good one. Just so happens it also falls on a real day of national mourning.

God speed, Mr. Charles!!

75. Pistons did it right!
These are the "Mighty Lakers"? I guess the league got it all wrong hyping the west as the superior league. It's fine to average 100 points per game when both teams suck defensively (i.e. western conference), however as in any sport a great defense wins most of the time. If the Pistons could shoot 45% they would blow everyone away all the time. They barely shot 40% in this game and buried the Lakers. Gotta love it! :spank:

78. I gotta give it up to the EASTERN CONFERENCE
I always thought it was the J.V. of the NBA but they are HUMILIATING the HATED LAKERS. KEEP IT UP E.C.!!!

83. So do you believe yet?
Pistons fear NO ONE. Big name and glitz -- who cares? The Pistons were incredible last night. I had to get up at 5:30 a.m. but I kept the TV on as long as I could.

Go Pistons!

84. "R-E-S-P-E-C-T
...find out what it means to me" Aretha belted out in Motown.

Pistons smelled blood in the water as the NBA fans shouted "Stop the coronation!"

Back in LA LA -land the quiet murmer of "mercy, mercy" was heard.

Shoulda been a sports writer....
