Am I the last one to find out that Reagan died?
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 06:45 PM by JVS
I noticed the flags at half-mast at 5:00 pm eastern time on Sunday and asked why. Couldn't have happened to a better person :-)

2. Uh oh....be prepared to be called insensitive for not
caring that REAGAN died. Forget that the man cared little about those who were not white and rich. He couldn't say the words AIDS for six years into his presidency. He and people like him opposed stem cell research until the need for it hit close to home. All Americans are supposed to wail away in absolute mourning because a rich 93 year old man died in California.

Reagan: The reason we have #43.

3. it's okay not to care
it's another thing to joy in it.

at least the poor man was relieved of suffering from alzheimers. I'd wish that on NOBODY.

15. Sad to say that if we are fortunate enough to live
long enough, many of us will come down with Alzheimers or a similar disease. Few of us will have the quality of care experienced by the Reagan family. Most of us will probably end up in a nursing home being cared for by strangers making just a little over minimum wage.

I feel for the middle class person who must juggle a job and family to care for a parent with Alzheimers. This person sits in absolute fear that she (and it's primarily a SHE who takes care of older and ill parents) will lose her job because she has used too many FMLA (family medical leave act) days. She must worry that once again she'll have to find another new caregiver because the one she hired last week quit. She worries about running out of money to pay the night-time care givers. I know this because I have friends who have been down this road.

I can't pity a well connected and rich family with access to the best care money can buy. Never did Nancy Reagan have to worry that St Ronnie was going to get up out of bed in the middle of the night and go a wandering. He had 24 hour care because we, the taxpayers, were paying for it. Wouldn't it be nice if ALL Alzheimers patients had access to that care? They don't because of policies favored by Reagan, Bush, Clinton (Welfare Reform) and now Bush II (who favors Medical Savings Accounts to pay for medical care).

I lost an uncle to AIDS in 1998. When he died it was a relief because he was not suffering anymore. What was left before he died was not my uncle. While I am sure Nancy and Co are sad to see RR go,they have probably been mourning for the last few years.

4. I care that he died!
I'm enjoying the hell out of it! I've looked forward to this a long time and shall celebrate as long as the news is making a big deal of it (keep me updated, I have no TV)

6. Ha ha!! Good! Keep up that attitude
it annoys the whiners who want to tell us how we're supposed to feel about it.

I take no joy in his death - if it happened while he was still ruling, then I would - but I can't say I'll miss the evil sonofabitch.l

His policies live on in this country. Strongly.

Until his policies are halted and reversed as the Articles of Satan that they are, there's not reason to celebrate.

17. Well I'm not holding my breath on that
Many "Democrats" seem perfectly happy to continue the policies, so you may as well enjoy what little good comes your way

8. Oh, puh-leez!
I don't give a damn that Ronald Reagan died; I simply see no reason to urinate on the man's corpse.

OTOH, if Tom DeLay kicks the bucket tomorrow, I'll fucking jump for joy!!! :bounce:

7. I prefer to spend the weekend holed up in my fortress of solitude
I don't have TV now. I don't even have furniture beyond a chair and a mattress. No radio either. Phone line was transfered to my brother's new house too. I do have a cell phone, but I discourage calls because it costs money. I'm a bit isolated from the world at this point.

13. Well, a plan B is important
It'll be cool, drink whiskey and don't come out of your room for days. Then your brother can come over bust open the door to your apartment to see you sitting drunk and in a pile of filth.
He can pick you up, slap your face and give you a dramatic, tearful "You're ruining your life man!" Speech.

AH the stuff bad movies are made of.
