What kind of car(s) do you drive?
This is my 4th car thread today. I guess I'm in a car kinda mood. :P

I drive a '93 Toyota Corolla with 107,000 miles on it. I bought it for $4k five years ago. I've had to replace the starter once, but other than that nothing other than normal maintenance.

It's nothing fancy, but it gets me to where I need to go reliabily. The gas mileage is also fairly good. I get around 27 in the city and 33 on the highway.

The only thing I fear is getting into a car accident. It's only worth $2k in the bluebook. The insurance company would probably junk it even if it was just a fender bender. :-(

It's the best car I've ever had, which isn't saying much considering the crappy cars I've owned. But we really love it, even though we don't drive much. We only have 30,000 on it and it's 4-1/2 years old.

96 Pontiac Grand Prix, given to my wife by her Mom (our 16 year old son hates it- says it is a Grandmother car)

2000 Passat Wagon- Six cylinder, five speed and Monsoon sound system- great car. (30 mpg on the road)

1971 Volvo P1800E- the second oldest one left- # 245. It has fewer miles than either of the above. I drive it all the time when there isn't any road salt.

9. shouldn't a aksed
currently insured for public road use: 90 dodge pickup, 91 ford 12 passanger van, both recovered "abandoned vehicles" (left on ranch by smuglers) son drives his greatgrandmother's 74 chevy impala. Need to get paperwork straightened out: (my favorite and the most reliable) 78 chevy hippy van - complete with blue shag carpet on cieling walls and floor. Best vehicle I've ever owned.

Have about 15 of these ~10 year old high milage vehicles, anybody need a junker? This is the byproduct of our current border policies. Border patrol sets up checkpoints about 40 miles this side of the border on major roads. The smuglers then take off on numerous cross-country routes/utility right of ways/old trails/dry washes etc. When the cheap retread tires they are running on give out they go another little ways on the rim(s) and eventually abandon the vehicle. You would be amazed at how many people you can stuff into a van at $1K per head. So we find these things and drag them home, do the paperwork and hopefully eventually will get a bit of cash for the trouble. Most anybody with property in my county now seems to be in the towing and used van business. Just a little side story to the main one on illegal immigration. We are really inundated in these rural areas this seems to be one little adaptation we have made. That and recycling back packs. By the thousands. I'll throw as many of those in as you want when you buy a van. heh heh

10. I have a 95 Corolla:
84000 miles.

30 MPG highway, 25.4 MPG chitty.

Engine slowly leaks oil and between oil changes they claimed the transmission fluid was low too.

It is reasonably reliable though.

Runs sweet, just less than 30 mpg on a recent trip to Palm Springs.

But someone keyed the shit out of the car three weeks ago, 25 feet total. I always thought the color was burgundy, but while checking on fixing the key marks I've discovered it's actually Crimson Pearl.

How the heck did I beat GOPisEvil to the punch in two straight "what's your car?" threads? Moving is such a lame excuse.

A so-called luxury car and not a threat of a sunken plastic molding. Didn't people drink when the G20 was launched, circa '90?

And how about the creative horn placement, two mini buttons at the edge of the wheel. I can't count how many times I've honked and missed.

Yeah, sort of an overgrown SUV, but TOUGH!

And only drove it 6,000 cliks in the last three years, it's fur camping!

Oh - has 260,000 kilometers on it, in the last 6 years the rear end(differential) automatic transmission and engine have all been rebuilt.

I intend to keep it another ten - twenty years - just fix what it needs.

I calculate upkeep at around $1,000 year - a new comparable vehicle would cost over 40 grand, so 40 years @ 1,000 per - not a bad deal

I spend about as much on insurance as gas in a year, so a second vehicle is not even a consideration

well, I did buy a ten speed bicycle if that counts :silly:

27. '94 Toyota PU
about 212,000 miles, still runs great. I put a new clutch in last summer, and have replaced the brakes a couple of times. Other than that, just regular oil changes keep us going. I bought it new, and would like to give it to my son and get another, if I could find the cash. It hauls feed, and has hauled yards of dirt and loads of rock for gardening projects. It does everything but haul the horse trailer. Well, actually, it can haul the horse trailer as long as it's empty!

It's my second Toyota pickup. The first went 350,000 miles. The last 4 years with my two sons in high school; 2 years for the first, then 2 years for the second. It was retired when my younger son ran it into the side of a hill and bent the frame. A family member picked up the engine, took it to his shop, and is still using it to run some equipment for him 5 years later.

34. lol Probably.
I can't remember the last time I washed it. My son wanted to do that for me last Xmas, it had gotten so bad. He still hasn't gotten around to it. And, stubbornly, since he was going to clean the poor thing, I didn't.

Of course, it could stink to high heaven and I'd never know, with the olfactory nerves inoperable.

I have another 2 weeks and 2 days of work, and then I'll have some extra time on my hands. I'll clean it out, take it to the carwash, and let them have at it. Then it will be a pickup, not a PU. ;-)

with 72,000 miles on it. I bought it in March from my ex-sister-in-law when she traded up to an SUV. Now, don't go ragging on my s-i-l about the SUV since she's a realtor in a rural area and needs a large vehicle to transport people. She also needs 4 wheel drive because a lot of her business is acreage and she has to go off road to show ponds and topography.

I love my "new" car because everything works on it and because it fits me. The car I replaced with this one needed new brakes, had a leak in the radiator, had an oil leak and the a/c didn't work. In Oklahoma you want your a/c to work! I sold it to my ex-husband with full disclosure!
