My internet went down on Saturday. I called Comcast and they said my modem had broken. I scheduled a repair thing for between 1pm and 3pm today.

2pm comes and I get a message on my phone. It didn't ring; just a message saying oops, I wasn't home so the guy couldn't get in, so the appointment is cancelled. He never buzzed the bell, and my phone didn't ring, and I never left the apartment or even took a shower so I could hear the bell.

I call the dispatch and tell him the story and he says "Oh, sorry sir, someone will call you in a 1/2 hour to reschedule."

An hour goes by and no call. I call back. "Oh, sorry sir, someone will call you in a 1/2 hour to reschedule."

Another hour goes by and no call. "Oh, sorry sir, someone will call you in a 1/2 hour to reschedule."

Another hour goes by and no call. I get a supervisor on the phone and go ballistic. He says someone will be out within the hour.

No one comes. I call again and go berzerker ballistic. Someone was supposed to be here now!!! "Uh, no sir, the work order says the person isn't going to come until 7."

Dude finally shows up and can't fix the problem. The engineers are coming between tonight and tomorrow maybe to fix the routing problem in the building, because it was never the modem to begin with.

So I can't leave. The tech left a half hour ago. My internet has gone down three times since I began typing this post.

5. Go with DSL, Will.
Have had not one moment's trouble with mine--it's fast, and speed doesn't vary based on how many users are simultaneously accessing.

My love for DSL knows no bounds. And Comcast sucks on the west coast, too.

7. Buy your own modem.
It will pay for itself in about a year. If it breaks then you get a new one with your warranty. You still have to deal with the DA's on the telephone to get it to be seen, but it didn't take me long.

8. It isn't the modem
My cable internet line is apparently split in two different places down in the bundle, so I am simply not getting enough juice to the apartment for the internet and TV. I'm at +6 and need to be at +10 at least. That's why they need to get an engineer out here.

9. When my cable has been damaged...
It is the TV that starts getting a bad picture before the computer looses connection.

Roto-tillers will do that, you know.
