5. ROTFLMAO... Not Very Likely
But I like the way you think. It would be rather humorous for someone to take a poll to find out what how to make the best exit.

2. I refuse to acknowledge these "I'm leaving DU foreever and ever"
My best friend could post something like that here and I would just give her shit that she's crying out for attention. I've taken 'breaks' from DU by simply not posting here for a few days and then quietly return back.

Go ahead, leave, no tears from me!

15. indeed
the public pity-posts don't do much for me either..

(and I can never really determine WTF they are talking about anyway)

they'll know I left DU when they starting wondering why I haven't posted in a while... and if they don't notice I'm gone, all the better.

3. I love the big, whiny, "Oh boo hoo for me" final flamethread
Edited on Mon May-24-04 11:56 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Let's me know that I won't have to read that person's OTHER whiny, "oh boo hoo for me" threads and posts any more.

p.s.: on edit, let me add that I really appreciated the Ultra-Whiny "Oh boo hoo for me" request for account termination that, uh, whoever the hell that was did last week or two weeks ago. What an idiot. Like anyone is going to be swayed by such a "bold" "political" comment and say, "Gosh! Maybe I should leave DU, too!"

4. There's no need to be a drama queen
Some messages private messages to people who are friends...

And a quiet goodbye. That's the classiest way to do, IMO.

allowing all group members adequate time to process the separation.

13. Other. It depends on three things...
1) Why they do it, and 2) how they say it, and 3) if they explain their reasoning in their dramatic flame-out.

Heck, I did it, back in the days before "Don't let the door..." was quite so common a figure of speech around here. It was dramatic, all right, but I did explain exactly why I was so pissed off. The replies I received were probably 70/30 in my support, and it was the supportive responses that brought me around. I expected to get flamed, but I knew, if nothing else, a lot of people who read my post would understand why I was so upset, whether they agreed with me or not.

Having been there, I figure if somebody is so frustrated to tell off the entire board before making an exit, it won't kill any of us to know why -- although we run the risk of learning that, hey! maybe this person does have a valid reason! Or not.

In any case, it's pretty cold to dismiss 'em with "Get a thicker skin" (and, oh, by the way, don't let the door hit you...).

Unless, of course, we're talking about a cryptic "Sod off! I hate all of you! I'm leaving!" post that doesn't have any purpose other than to purposely inflame. In that case, I'm happy to tell 'em not to let the door hit 'em in the ass.

P.S. Would I ever do such a thing again? Not on your life! Now I just take long, long vacations from DU when the not-so-friendly-gay stuff gets to be too much to handle, but I'd never dream of announcing it. Much of my behavior on DU has been modified (read: curtailed) sharply, and will probably continue to be, as the membership grows. With all due respect to Skinner (oh, he knows I love him) and DU at large, DU no longer has the kind of intimacy that affords one the luxury of straight-from-the-heart cries of agony.

16. my motto: Don't go away mad, just go away
use the first rule of comedy - leave the audience wanting more. Making a big splash on departure breaks that rule.

19. But what if it's a non-dramatic goodbye?
I'm starting a new job next week, and I'm not going to be able to be on DU all day anymore. Quite possibly at all, in fact. I'm sure I'll check in here and there, but by and large, I'm going to leave.

But it's by necessity, and not dramatic, and I'm not mad, and I would just say goodbye, and wish everyone well.

Will this irritate???

20. It will irritate me because you won't be around.
I think this might be in some of those "I'm leaving DU because..." and they list all of the reasons that DU has gone downhill.

I will miss you here, felonious.

27. "Gone Downhill" Really Means...
It's grown and changed and I'm incapable of accepting change and growing and changing myself.

Maybe.

Or "it could mean something else" (as they say. I've got to cover all the bases. LOL!)

26. I leave all the time
No one ever notices until I come back, then I usually get a couple of "hey, where've you been?" type posts. With 40,000 users, it's kind of hard to miss one single logon not appearing regularly.
