4. And details...
What kind of driving? How much per week? Who will be driving the car?

Step into my cubicle... can I get you a soda? Cup of coffee?

Hey, that's a cool shirt! Oh, can you fill this out? Quick credit check, is all... we do it as a courtesy. No charge!

Seriously, I am a licensed automotive salesperson in the state of California... don't go to any dealership alone, and don't go with your wallet. These guys know what they're doing.

b/w $4,000 and $15,000. I would like to stay on the lower side, just so I will not have to work in July.

8. Anything Toyota or Honda with good gas mileage would be a good bet..

Maybe a 4 cylinder Honda, or maybe even a Prius.

If you are doing the auction thing, you have to keep in mind that you cannot drive the car before you bid on it, you can only look at it.

I bought my car from a private owner I found online. I knew it was a good deal because he was a wealthy executive that worked for Nintendo and he had ALL of the maintenance records. He took very good care of it. I would look for something like that if you have the cash to pay for it. That's ideal because you don't have to pay the taxes, and you can work on the price, etc....that's the best way...plus you can drive it.

Internet is the way to go...its really easy to find a car that stands out when you see them all listed in front of you. I've never had a good experience at a dealership.

13. Buah ha ha ha, brainwashing of bif is complete.
He has joined us in the Cult of Saturn Owners.

Seriously, great cars. Affordable & good quality, plus union-made in the USA. And Saturn takes great efforts to recycle as much as possible in their plant.

15. Stay away from Ford
Found On Road Dead
Fix Or Repair Daily

Anything in the 1995 to 2000 model years will blow head gaskets like they're going out of style.

19. So carry a head gasket and a torque wrench!
Simple roadside repair on an inline 4, so long as it's not raining and you didn't warp the head.

22. I have 2003 Focus wagon - no complaints
Rated a Consumer Reports best buy. Good mileage, lots of cargo room (fit a dryer still in the box back there), nice stock CD/MP3 player and all for under 17k.

16. Prius, Civic Hybrid, Insight if you can fit in one
2004 Prius is the best, but you have to go on Ebay or Autotrader to find them, and even that is iffy.

20. They've gone insane
I looked at a new Volvo the other day. It was one with the Volvo Surround Sound System With A Shitload Of Speakers in it...one of the speakers was on the dash. Most cars have a speaker in the dash, but most of them don't put the same kind of cheap, shitty-looking speaker grille as they have on the back package tray on the dashboard.

I am not putting $44,000 into a car that looks like a preschooler installed the stereo.

The Acura RSX looks real nice (I need something just the right size for one person, or maybe two) but for twenty-three large I'd kinda like the HondaPorn DVD-enabled navigation system that you can watch movies on when the car's not running, and the RSX doesn't offer it--but I can get it on the Accord Coupe.

21. You looking for a car
or a home theater system? ;)

I used to be a technofreak when it came to car sound systems, but after have X number ripped out of the dash by thieves, I gave up. So here I am today, Volvo with mediocre sound system and all.

So-so entertainment, great car IMO.

23. Well, both actually
With the HondaPorn system, you can go out at lunchtime when you're at work, throw in a DVD and do lunch-and-a-movie.

26. Just don't buy a brand new car!
Brand new cars are a ripoff! You can look around for a really nice 1-3 year old car and easily save $10,000. You will still have a really nice, good car.

I wouldn't blow the money on a new car unless I had a million dollars in the bank.
