Anyone heard "Sgt. Pepper" in MONO???
If you have not, then it's almost like you've never heard it...

Different/ Superior mixes..."Getting Better" & "Reprise" alone make it worth the bother!

Get it on vinyl if possible- but it's on CD too...

13. Does it say it on the disc?

...I'd be suprised if you accidently bought a mono copy- but perhaps they have mass-released it in the past few years for all I know.

I know that a few years ago the boot-leg CDs were hard to come by...

8. Not all the re-releases were in stereo.
All of the original mono versions were released on CD in mono. When Sgt Peppers was first released, it was released in mono and stereo versions. A lot of albums were in that era. The CD was released in stereo, but there are mono versions out there.

11. found what I was looking for
http://abbeyrd.best.vwh.net/beatlesoncd.html

discussion of mono vs. stereo. The discussion back in 1981 is captured on the mono side here. The stereo side isn't well represented.

snip..
"there is precedence for this: as well as Rarities (a top 25 album at the time), the Beatles Mono Collection box set of all 10 mono LP’s was a big success when issued by EMI in 1981, selling out its limited pressing immediately and now selling for large amounts on the collector’s market. It would be a shame for these differences to be lost forever in the digital age, seeing as in most situations, listening to these classic albums and singles in either stereo or mono is a different experience entirely."

15. Very hard to get Mono Sgt. Pepper, Mystery Tour, or the White Album...
...on vinyl...

But they have re-released all the others up to "For Sale" in mono and they are very easy to find & cheap.

It's still totally easy to get decent vintage copies of Revolver & Rubber Soul in MONO...

The last two MONO versions that exist are Mystery Tour & THe White Album- which are hard to come by- I wish they would re-release them...

5. Don't forget that audio track at the VERY end.
At the very end of the groove.

Just nonsense tracks strung together.

14. Well...(From the link posted on this thread)

According to Mark Lewisohn, author of "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions" (1988), 700 hours of studio work went into the making of "Sgt. Pepper", yet only around 10 hours were spent mixing it in stereo. In the words of Lewisohn's exhaustive chronicle, "during the production of "Sgt. Pepper", the Beatles are said to have taken a hands-on approach with the mono mixing yet left the task of the stereo mixing entirely to others."

The diffence is the stereo version is split into two weaker channels...

Many mono records ALMOST sound like different recording sessions or somthing.

If you are a Rock & Roll music buff, I recomend you seek out some mono-mixes.

I prefer Bo Diddley, the Stones, Beatles, Elvis, C & W, etc in MONO...

I never listened to it though! I do like the White album's British mono version.

21. I have a couple of early Beatles albums in mono.
Got them when I was a kid, when they came out. The other early Beatles albums I have say "stereo" on them in big letters because it was such a big new deal then, I guess. Offhand, I forget which are the mono ones.
