Baby kitty isn't going to make it..
She has been getting weaker all day, after she had the runs I switched her to pedialyte. I spent a long time clearing her eyesocket and ear from the maggots hoping that would help her. By this evening she couldn't even take the pedialyte without choking and it coming out her nose. It's just been a downhill slide. I know I did everything I could to save her. I'm just holding her now in her fleece blanket hoping to make her comfortable and hoping she goes peacefully. And crying.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and help. I wish it would have turned out differently.

5. I have tried to save many infants - it is very-very painful
you will know that you did the best you could and she will know in the end that there was someone there to love and care and worry about her.

It is the most painful times I've been thru - trying to save animals. They have an innocence that we as humans mostly lack. They are loyal and loving and not at all stupid.

This baby was sent to you for a reason. Your soul is written forever in the Book of Life.

9. "What you do for the least of mine, you do for me..".
There is a very special place for people like you. My cats just climbed into my lap because they get worried when Daddy suddenly starts crying. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and hugs. DC, Pooky and Tootsie just gave you a big thumbs up too!

10. that is one of my favorite quotes... and it is so true.....
you can really tell what someone's heart is like by the way they treat those that might not seem significant to others.... or how they treat them when no one is watching.

14. It has always meant a great deal to me...
I think that the beauty of it was driven home to me when I was a youngster. It was at a time when I was trying to figure out the whole religion thing. I read a poem about an Arab chieftain, whose name was Abu ben Adem and it everything suddenly made a great deal more sense. The poem is always in the back of my mind. As far as the kitties go, they do as much for their old man as their old man does for them. When I go to bed every night, I have my three bedmates snuggled with me. When I am upset, as I have been recently, they make sure to let me know that I am loved. Pooky especially, spends a great deal of time climbing up on my desk and butting me with his head while purring like a little buzzsaw. I wouldn't know what to do without them.

11. That little baby
was shown by you all the love we have to give and you should feel very good about what you have done after the grief passes. If she dies in your arms she is getting more than most of us will ever be able to have. Until you feel better enough to know how wonderful this gift you have just given the kitty is then I will tell you. You are a wonderful, caring human being. People like you are the best we have to offer the world. Thank you. Now I will go wipe my tears. Good luck.

13. Have you tried taking her to a vet with an incubator?
I had a kitten who was in dire straits. They put her in a temperature controlled environment and fed her IV.

Cost a bundle, but it worked.

An electric heating blanket has helped other marginal kittens I've raised.

I know its probably too late, and I'm sorry for you. At least the kitten feels loved.

21. She passed at 10:35 last night....
I cuddled her until she went - it broke my heart. This morning my husband buried her in our little pet cemetery with some other much beloved pets. I've named her Puff after the kitten in the Dick & Jane stories (I'm dating myself here).

This was a group effort and I can't thank all of you enough for helping me try to save her - it just wasn't meant to be. I know she is off over the rainbow bridge happy and playing and hopefully I will see her again some day.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

26. Sadly, when we find kittens this young abandoned, it's due to fatal
Edited on Wed May-19-04 11:14 AM by radwriter0555
ailments the mothers instinctively knew about. Animal parents instinctively abandon the terminal ones in order to 'save' the rest of the litter and themselves, unfortunately.

Many of these ailments can indeed come from inbreeding of the ferals.

It's hard to see such a sweet, cute little thing perish. You did all you could, but the outcome was really inevitable.
