2. oooh baby baby
I'm masturbating right now.I wrote a song called Red Guitar;
here's the lyrics
Red Guitar
I've been banging on a guitar for the better part of my life
6 string lover's sure been a comfort and a beautiful 2nd wife
just like a woman she gives me pleasure brings joy and soul delight
with 1 major difference between the 2 women the 2nd one and me don't fight
(CHORUS)Outta all the old guitars
thru the years that have come and gone
there's this one I still remember
till the day I die I know I will regret
the day I sold that Red Guitar
It was a beautiful cherry red Gretsch hollow body and"F holed"
it had a whammy bar and bore the scars of a wanna-be rock n roll star
had it back around'78 what ever happened to it I don't know
but what I'd give if I could have it now
just to play her out or even just hold
(Chorus)Outta all the old guitars
thru the years that have come and gone
there's this one I still remember
till the day I die I know I will regret
the day I sold that Red Guitar
<<<<BRIDGE>>>>>>>>
It mighta been old and a little beat up
coulda used a little touch up paint
but I always said I like 'em better like that
with the chips and the nicks and scrapes oh yea
Outta all the old guitars
thru the years that have come and gone
there's this one I still remember
till the day I die I know I will regret
the day I sold that Red Guitar

6. OLP MM1...Officially licensed version of the Ernie Ball Axis...
Edited on Tue May-18-04 10:07 AM by phillybri
Originally, the Axis was the old Eddie Van Halen signature model...

I had to be a little creative, though, since this particular color isn't available in the US, I had to purchase it from a store in the UK...

17. Here's My List
2004 Ibanez JS-1000: (Transparent Red Basswood) It's my baby!

2000 Ibanez RG-420G: Spare shredder guitar. Hot pickups, decent floating bridge. Neck is kind of thick and too flat, but its an "Ooops, broken string" back up to my JS-1000.

1972 Fender Strat: (Highly Customized with Duncan Pickups, Kahler Bridge, and Warmouth Birdseye Maple Neck. Painted BMW Silver)

2004 Fender Strat: (Stock in Metallic Sage Green)

1962 Fender Jazzmaster: (Repainted to Black, but all else stock.)

1998 Fender Telecaster: (Midnight Wine All Stock)

1968 Dan Armstrong: Lucite Body (All Stock, except for replacement pickguard. I bought it for the kitsch value. Tony Iommi used to play one. I set it up with thick strings and set the action high for slide.)

Takamine DR-450 Acoustic: (It's their number one line, but i got the bottom end of the series, because it's not ornamental in any way. Very plain jane, but it is their best sounding instrument.)

Giannini K-20 (i think that's the model): It's a mandolin topped cutaway acoustic. It has a REALLY bright, ringing sound. I tune it to open G and use it for slide.

1999 Fender Standard 5 String Jazz Bass: Also in Midnight Wine. No mods at all.

A little windy. I REALLY am a candidate for OGBA!

The Professor

16. Try one of these next time

This is an Alembic Spectrum. Alembic is pretty legendary amongst bass players, but I don't know about their guitar rep - fantastic construction though, I used to play an Alembic Epic bass that was pretty sweet.

19. If I might make a suggestion to go with your sickness
Edited on Tue May-18-04 12:22 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
Guitars are a great investment when you know what you are doing, as are vintage amps and certain electronic equipment. Most of my guitars were appreciating and making money while my stocks were taking a shit. This is especially true of guitars made with Brazilian rosewood given the state of the rainforests.

I used to spend 200$ on a guitar that looked pretty only to be able to get 100 out of it when I was no longer enthralled with it.

Then one day, I found a 70's model Gibson Les Paul on consignment in a little music store..the frets were bad but it had the coffin case, the pick-ups were good the neck was intact but it needed a fret job...I bought it..put 200$ into a fret job (was offered 700 for the guitar by the house that did the fret job) and hung onto it...I now get offers for over 1000$ on a guitar that cost me 550 to make playable.

I then began talking to musicians, came across a strat that had been owned by Ritchie Sambora...bought it on the spot for 750...turned around and traded it as a down payment on an Freddy Tavares Aloha Strat (one of only about 150 made) I GOT the Aloha at a bargain price 3000K ...Aloha's are now trading on Ebay for around 7,000$.

The Guild came out with a new model called the X170 ( I had always wanted a blond short scale semi hollow body). It sold new for around 1,500...I got it for 1,200 after going into the shop about 20 times to play it and waiting patiently for them to deal with me. It is in new condition and new ones are now going for over 2K.

Then I was in a pawn shop and the owner says "You like Martins?" Well I don't unless they have a cutaway since I now play mostly chord melodies but they can ALWAYS sell. I bought it for 800 - turned around and sold it for 1,200.

So my TWO points are...try to avoid emotional buys on guitars in place of practical buys...if you are GOING to have an impulse..then let that IMPULSE work for you.

Don't get emotionally attached to your guitars...there's a bazillion out there...let them go and keep getting better ones.

Look toward purchases that will appreciate. There have been times when cash flow was bad for me and a wisely chosen guitar paid my bills.

And HAVE FUN!

20. The Exact Opposite of Me, Teena
I buy based upon what i want at that time. I don't care about the future. That's why i have a 401k. Guitars are my toys. I look toward no day in which i'd sell my toys for something else.

Except in one case, i haven't spent a huge amount of them. I'm a good negotiator and always get something extra, so for me, it's the getting, having, and bonus gifts that make the buying fun.

I don't want anything (aside from my JS) that i have to worry about nicking and losing $300 of value. Their tools to me, and sometimes tools get dinged. But, if it's always going to be my tool, and they're my dings, no harm done.

You're approach is good for you, just happens to be nearly the opposite of mine.

21. You're wise to do this, but I agree w/ Professor...
These are just my toys. I'd really have a hard time looking at them as investments.

My dad used to fix up old cars and sell them, and it actually became hard for him because he really loved the cars once they were ready to be sold...Separation anxiety would get me...

These are just my babies. I'd like to think I'll have them when I'm 60.

Thanks!
