Sean Bean was THE man again
Edited on Mon May-17-04 05:12 PM by Mass_Liberal
he did a pretty damn good Odysseus in the movie Troy. Odysseus is the only one with sort of complicated motives. In any case, Sean Bean rocks. And despite being a hetero man, I'm in love with him.

Peace,
Dave

1. He was pretty good, wasn't he?!

Bana and O'Toole were good also, and Orlando Bloom was a wonderful non-warrior, crawling to his brothers' feet for protection. Nice to see that they made use of his LOTR archery skills. Brad Pitt didn't do much for me in this one at all.

2. ya...
I thought the movie was almost perfect.... but then Brad Pitt ruined it. He was a HORRIBLE achilles. And also, the movie of COURSE had to say that Achilles and Patroclus are just friends, when in fact they are gay lovers, which makes the entire book so much more powerful, patroclus' death and achilles' wrath and soforth.

3. Oh, that "cousin" thing...
doesn't matter because I suspected as much anyway! It didn't matter how many women Achilles bedded in the movie.

I studied some mythology, but it was a very long time ago, and rewritten into sterile material I could handle in the mid 1970's as a young teen. Can't remember any blatant comments about homosexuality.

Also, wasn't Achilles' weakness revealed to Paris or someone? I don't remember that disclosure in the movie.

4. Sean Bean did a good job
And I wouldn't mind if they made a movie of the Odyssey starring him.

Brad Pitt was awful as Achilles. His idea of acting in this film was posing and staring off into the distance. Possibly the worst performance of his career.

5. very stylized fights. nice stuff. <Drool> Sorry. I want to see Bean do the
Odyssey. Wonderful story, that. I can't wait to get this DVD.

I would also like to go to Europe and see the statue of the Sacred Band. Standing next to what's left of it would be as close to Alexander as I could ever manage. SIGH! Love heroic societies.
