Morrissey launches scathing attack on David Bowie - NME
http://www.nme.com/news/108493.htm

MORRISSEY has launched a scathing attack on DAVID BOWIE during his first television interview in 17 years.

He labeled Bowie "showie", claiming that the veteran artist was a "business’". He went on to say that the public only fell in love with Ziggy Stardust, and the visuals for Ziggy were dreamt up by someone else.

Morrissey also tore strips off the artist in an interview in the April edition of GQ magazine.

"(He is) not the person he was. He is no longer David Bowie at all. Now he gives people what he thinks will make them happy, and they're yawning their heads off. And by doing that, he is not relevant. He was only relevant by accident."

1. Well....
He does have a point. How can Bowie say he's not a commodity when you can buy and sell him on the stock market.

2. It's too bad
Morrissey doesn't have something significant to say. David Bowie is what he is. That's why he's popular and famous, and people only hear from Morrissey ever 17 years.

3. Nothing like stirring up a little controversy to get your name
back in the greater public consciousness.

5. Yeah, there is a history between these two.
Morrissey walked off Bowie's Outside tour two shows in, back in '95, claiming illness. That may have something to do with it. Perhaps a Celebrity Deathmatch is in order?

6. well after a string of really shitty solo albums I am not surprised
and I am sure David Bowie isn't concerned either. He has enough money to buy Morrisey and make him a gloomy houseboy.

10. Well considering that Morrissey is a giant puss and a whiney hack
Edited on Fri May-14-04 08:03 AM by Melodybe
and Bowie is one of the most sampled musicians on the planet, married to a supermodel, and pushing close to a billion dollars, I can understand why he would be jealous.

Really who cares?

Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me:cry:

:puke:

7. David Bowie has always been about artifice.
The first "David Bowie" I remember wore dresses & had Lauren Bacall hair. He's gone through many a change since then--& I wouldn't be surprised if he stole an idea or two. (Has anybody here seen Velvet Goldmine?)

On the other hand we have "I'm Morrissey & I'm depressed." Always dependable. And he's promoting a new record, so he had to find some way to get into the headlines.

11. That's the point of Bowie, though.
As he says 'I'm a human Xerox machine'. He's stolen much, but who hasn't? He stole it and it looked good on him.

8. I Love 70s Bowie and Morrissey
But I can apply the Trainspotting quote to either of them.

"sure the new stuff is good, but in your heart you know it's shit"

9. He may be right
but at one time between Space Oddity,The Man who Sold The World,Hunky Dory,The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders from Mars,Aladdin Sane,PinUps until Diamond Dogs right up until Springsteen broke through with Born to Run Bowie was about the best thing out there. This can be argued by myself too(Who's Quadrophenia,Zeppelin stuff).Even John Lennon got down on his knees(drunk I'm sure)and bowed to Bowie.I remember reading somewhere how they described him"he grabbed pop music by the ears and dragged them into the next decade".As for Morrissey I can't name one song or album he's ever done not one.the only thing I can tell ya is I know he celebrated celibacy(uh sure dude) you can come out of the closet now,it's OK.
