Punk Kittens
I was reading up on the White Stripes and trying to decide which CD to try.

I find their garage band sound and the two songs I have heard by the band interesting.

This is the fun punk kitten propaganda that I uncovered:

Kittens that cute are dangerous damnit.

4. side recommendation
I don't really know what White Stripes recommendation to make -- I say any one but "Elelphant" -- most replies will probably disagree and say "Elelphant."

However, many critics have noted the similarity of White Stripes to the 80's / 90's band called The Flat Duo Jets. There is much similarity and I enjoy The Flat Duo Jets as much or more than WS.

Flat Duo Jets recommendations:

1. Go Go Harlem Baby LP (straightforward rockabilly)

2. Flat Duo Jets LP (garage-y, fast rockabilly)

3. White Trees LP (off-the-wall, the most precog of WS IMO)

5. OMG! I saw Flat Duo Jets at the 40 watt club back in like '89
Wow!

If the heat of the White Stripes music is like Flat Duo Jets then I am out to the store now.

I was thinking about getting White Blood Cells first.

6. White Blood Cells was my first
probably the best choice. I think the White Stripes are a band tailor made for a nice long greatest hits cd. Not intended as knock on the band, I just think their best songs are scattered pretty evenly over the albums.

I didn't get to see the Flat Duo Jets until 1990, unless you count "Athens GA Inside Out" movie.

7. Guess it was the only lucky part of being in Ga at the time
We always did road trips to the 40 Watt Club and Savannah.

Athens Ga Inside/Out blew my mind as a kid in high school.

Funny thing is I got to see a lot of those bands at the ones still left.

Saw REM at Ga Southern in 1980 my first concert.

Sad part is I know a guy from NY who saw all the punk bands I like.

:-(

Never got to see those bands in their heydays.

9. REM came to my small city in 1985
I had to miss them in favor of a Mathletes commitment in (of all places) Rockville (Long Island). We went to a Mets game during our time in the big city. Many fans were smoking cigars in the part of the stadium where our seats were.
