I just came back from Poppa's funeral.
He died of a heart attack Thursday afternoon, as you may recall me saying.

I gave a short eulogy telling how he impressed upon us the importance of nature. He was an avid gardener who, among other things, taught my mom (his daughter-in-law) how to garden. My brother (an ecology major) and I have a strong love for the environment, and I crediterd Poppa for that. I also told how much he loved his grandkids. (I was the only one of his six grandchildren to speak.)

It was a touching service. It brought some closure to me.

The two challenges that remain are getting back to 'normal' (however you define 'normal') and helping his wife of 58 years cope.

Thanks again for your support.

1. I admire you for giving a eulogy and I think the topic
you picked is great. If I ever had to make a eulogy it would be like yours-picking a unique characteristic about that person and spinning nice sweet tales. It shows your compassion and also that person's passionate for their hobby.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss but by making the eulogy, which is the last thing you will ever do for him, it showed your love and admiration for your 'Poppa'.

I'm sorry for your loss. You are fortunate to have had him in your life. He apparently influenced you and your whole family greatly. We should all be so lucky!

A few years ago, a friend of mine died suddenly in a motorcycle accident. He was in his early 30s. At his funeral, several of his friends stood up and talked about the things they liked most about him. Everyone at the service was laughing through their tears.

I believe as long as you remember someone, they are not gone from us.

3. Best wishes for peace
to you and your family. When I read that you had spoken atthe service, I thought, "How brave." When my mother passed, everyone expected me to speak, but I just couldn't. Good for you.
