"Earthlings: Ugly Bags of Mostly Water" to Screen at Cannes
'Earthlings: Ugly Bags of Mostly Water' to Screen at Cannes Film Market,
May 12 - 23, 2004

DENVER, Colo., April 30 /PRNewswire/ - Producers of the entertaining documentary, "Earthlings: Ugly Bags of Mostly Water," revealed today that Actor Michael Dorn, recognized worldwide for his role as 'Worf' in the Star Trek film and television franchise, stars in the documentary film about Klingon language and culture. "Earthlings" will make its international debut at the Cannes Film Market, May 12 - 23 (booth 23.01, Palais des Festivals)....The entertaining documentary "Earthlings: Ugly Bags of Mostly Water" captures the lives, passions and quirks of the members of the Klingon Language Institute during their annual qep'a' (conference). Klingon is, of course, the warrior language invented by Linguist Marc Okrand for the Star Trek television show and movie franchise.

1. On a similar topic
Someone should do a documentary on the Gor fans too. They're just as interesting.

Gor is interesting
But some of the tenets of the Gor subculture leave me a bit squicked. I'd never say YKINOK, but theirs is not my thing.

5. Seems like that might bog down...
in side-tangents about the Marquis de Sade and Pauline Reage's "Story of 'O'" pretty quick, though...Klingon linguists are fairly harmless geeks, like the people who study Tolkien's created languages. Gor freaks, on the other hand, are bent in ways that go beyond a mere resonance with a particular fiction and find echoes from the dead French authors I've mentioned to a certain bizarre Austrian by the name of Sacher-Masoch and well beyond.

3. I just checked out the website and saw the trailers.
I don't know if the movie will be any good, but the trailers suck. Boring as hell.

9. Yes, much better.
I watched this one: Teaser Trailer 480x270 - 12Mb Quicktime

It was good... I definitely will go watch it. I think it runs a bit to long, but it's light-years ahead of the HWBOMW trailer.
