Web Experts: Why does Norton Security block some of my favorite sites?
Password protected sites like nytimes.com and an art auction site I use won't accept my password while sites like Symbolman's and others I know to be safe just get blocked. I just switched over from Mcaffee, which didn't block nearly as many sites.

I assume I set it up wrong, but I have no idea which settings I need to change. Thanks in advance!

1. try to disable its firewall
it's firewall is kinda crappy, xp has one built right in if you have it. If that doesn't work go to internet options (start-settings-control panel-internet options) and see what your security settings are at. Change them back to default and see if that works.

2. Go to
the Internet Options box. Click on your privacy tab, then the
Advanced button. Put a check mark in the box that says Override Automatic cookie handling and click ok.
(you can click on Edit instead of advanced and just add individual
website url too)
And make sure your slider bar is not set to High (under the Security tab)

3. Configure Norton to accept those sites and to accept cookies and p/ws
Please don't use XP's integrated firewall. It's rubbish and rudimentary at best.

In the task bar, right-click on the little globe and select 'norton internet security'.(1) When the window pops up, look for the word "personal firewall" under 'security'. Then look for the configure button (in yellow) at the lower right. Click it. From there you can change program control and customize setting to allow access.

(1) at this screen, also look for "privacy settings". This will also get you to where you want to go. Clkick on it then look for 'configure' at the lower right corner, again - a yellow button will appear.
