Thurs' Stars & Stripes (Travel Section) says tourism in Europe is high
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 12:08 AM by lebkuchen
but that in the States tourism has declined by 30%. Time for Bush to put his mug in some travel commercials again, using his telemagnetic charm to woo foreigners over the border!

I feel for Jebbie, though, I really do. :)

The article is called "Americans travel despite weak dollar" by Jay Clarke, Knight Ridder Newspapers. It isn't posted at Stripes, but here's one of their articles, "Following Mozart's tracks by bike in Bavaria." BTW, the Euro to dollar is up to about .85 for one US dollar.

Pedaling into Bad Reichenhall is smooth sailing on a flat path with the mountains in the background.

An extension loop of the Mozart Radweg leads to St. Gilgen with its picturesque Rathaus or town hall. From the town there are boat excursions on the beautiful mountain lake, the Wolfgangsee.

Boat trips on the Königsee make a stop at St. Bartholomä with its onion-domed church.

The route ends back in Salzburg with cycling beneath the Hohensalzburg fortress, which dominates the city.

The Mozart café/konditorei in Bad Reichenhall features lavish displays of Mozart candy, called "Mozart Kugeln."
