To anyone who hates the South: Try living in Nebraska, you feebs
There are at least as many racists here as there are in the South, plus our weather sucks, PLUS there's nothing to do, PLUS this state's only redeeming qualities were producing Malcolm X, Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, and Johnny Carson.

And then we gave the world Gerald Ford and 311. We really suck.

Jess, who's hating this state more and more everyday.

4. One of my favorite insults
My all time favorite, however, is "simpering, fish lipped halfwit".

Thank God for the Minnesotans and Wisconsins of MST3K for providing me that wonderful line.

5. I thought Carson was from Iowa
In 7th grade, my friend started a vendetta against our AM Stud teacher because he hated I owa and she loves it. She came up with a whole bunch of people from Iowa and I think Carson was on her list.

I think...

8. Carson is from Norfolk NE...
In fact, his childhood home, on RTE 81/13th ST, is up for sale. The current owner has a firm price in the $350,000 range, and is getting no takers. I live about 6 blocks from there. It's a nice house, but sure ain't worth the asking price.

As an aside, Johnny gave the Norfolk Public Library $50,000 for the hell of it; all in all, a pretty nice guy!

Things aren't as bad as I imagine they are in Norfolk, but they still pretty much suck.

Fuck it, a year or two and I'll be living in Austin. Heavy emphasis on LIVING.

Austin, from all accounts, is fucking great. And if its not there, it'll be Chicago, since I know I'll have a place to stay there, or possibly San Diego.

11. Malcolm X was from Nebraska???
Wow! We'll chalk that up into the "never would have guessed in a million years" file.

I did know about Brando and Carson.

One of my favorite movie directors, Alexander Payne, sets his movies there, so that's a plus. Citizen Ruth, Election, About Schmidt are all very good. I'm guessing Payne is from there.

I wish we could claim Sorry About Dresden, but they've defected to Chapel Hill.

And anyone who says 311 gets a smack. 311 sucks.

Their hit song "Down" was their best, and last awesome song. "Grassroots" was their best album, IMO.

17. I still consider Omaha "home"
even though I haven't lived there for 15 years. But, given a choice between here and there, I'd choose here, because there ain't much there. The political scene is dismal at best.

But you can't beat a Nebraska sunset, and I say that after having lived in Cali, IL, TX, MO, Russia, and Germany.

Where do you live?

19. Kearney
AKA The Small Town With Delusions Of Grandeur

If this town had any semblance of a music scene, I might cut it some slack, but after five years here, all my patience is used up. Don't get me wrong, it's friggin utopia compared to the shitty little panhandle burg of Ogallala, where I was born and raised, but its still Nebraska, and I still hate it.

27. I beg to disagree
Lawrence Welk was an incredible musician. I had always held him in the popular contempt until he died and I researched his music looking for pieces the ignorant, racist ice-dancing community could NOT countermand.
That process led me to a discovery of the REAL Lawrence Welk. The guy was really f***in incredible AND he loved the sound of the oboe... I'm SO happy I had the opportunity to uncover his heart.

25. Believe it or not...
my wife and I took a mini-vacation to Omaha a couple of weeks ago.

Went to the Old Market area, caught a Royals game, and spent a day at the zoo. I kinda like the place.

The most annoying thing I've found about Nebraskans though is their obsession with college football. :)

33. LOTS of RWers oout here!...
but they can be changed.

I thought I was going to be sacrificed to the Children of the Corn when they found out I was a progressive. But, I've had the opportunity to get 8, count 'em 8, to change to Independent.

Of course I still sleep lightly around here, when they come from the Corn for me, I'll be ready!
