Has anyone seen "Kill Bill?"
Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 03:02 PM by CatWoman
I've heard it's pretty good.

It was in the store today for $15.

Any recommendations?

1. I really enjoyed it
But then I love Quentin Tarantino movies. Warning lots of violence and fake blood.

I do recommend it though. Kill Bill Vol II is out this weekend

15. Well 2 right now
It was made as one contiguous movie but cut into 2 parts. The thing is the second half has a very different feel to it but needs the first movie to set the backstory er or rather the other way around... er just go see it.

Anyway, the director seems to have in mind making a sequel years down the road. As the first pair are about revenge the theme can be reprised in the form of the daughter of the first victim coming after the bride for her revenge. They supposedly are shooting some scenes now just in case they need some footage for backflashes years from now.

3. Think about a really violent cartoon
Then think about having it in live action. Its gory and its really funny. Its got a twisted sense of humor thats for sure.

Either that or its terrible. Haven't totally decided, but I lean more toward funny.

4. It's great, but you have to like cartoon violence and Quentin
He has his usual odd sexual stuff, old movie references, gimmicks and generally cheesy fun. Even the soundtrack is vintage brassy and cheesy. :D

If you like all that, and enjoy sort of a referential pastiche done by Quentin Tarantino, Kill Bill's your thing. There's a lot of blood, but it's fairly cartoony.

17. Cartoon violence?
Over worked phrase and not particularly accurate. In fact the violence exlempified in this movie is much more close to reality than what we are normally provided with. People suffer and die from their injuries. It certainly is more graphic but cartoon violence as represented in American animation involves people doing violent things with no consequences. The rabbit falls off the cliff and bounces. A limb gets chopped off and reattached. Trust me, you lose a limb and you will not be happy.

Itchy and Scratchy are pretty bloody.
Look how I talk about a cartoon on a cartoon as though it were its own show...

8. I LOVED "Kill Bill"
I saw it 7 times in the theater! Lots of violence, lots of blood...but it's all so cartoonish it mostly makes you laugh. But I don't think it will bother you. Didn't you once post about watching "I Spit On Your Grave"? Comparatively, this is mild. If you liked any of his other movies, you'll really love this one.

16. If you like action movies,
Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 03:26 PM by library_max
but think they waste too much time on plot and character motivation.

If you like Japanese sword-combat anime, but think there's not enough blood and not enough meaningless long-winded posturing.

If you thought the combat stunts in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were too boringly realistic and that the ending made too much sense.

If you thought the writers never really gave Rambo enough of a break in his movies.

Then Kill Bill is the movie for you.

19. I, for one,
will not sponsor this "charge 'em twice for one long movie" tactic. I'll see these movies, if sufficiently motivated at the time, when I can rent both DVDs simultaneously. A movie costs $9.00 and I'm not paying $18.00 for a three-hour film.

Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 10:48 PM by FDRrocks
I would speculate. :)

Vol 1 and Vol 2 are the same movie. Tarantino split it up into two parts to make more money. Yes, thats why I think he did it.

23. Bring a bucket for all the blood
Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 10:55 PM by RatTerrier
Never seen so much blood in a movie.

I'm a Tarantino fan ("Jackie Brown" was his best, IMO). The movie is very Tarantino, with dialogue ranging from both brilliant to almost asinine. A very violent flick, with some great martial arts and samurai sword action. Great fight scenes.

But the movie strains credibility. How the hell does she board a plane in 2003 with a gigantic samurai sword? How the hell does she even get the money or ID to board the plane? How does she go from being in a coma for four years to almost instantly whuppin' ass? But I guess since she's a trained assassin, I'll forgo all of this.

And if you like over-the-top violence, this is the only movie you'll ever need. Lots of severed arms and heads. And blood doesn't ooze, it shoots all over the place like a geyser.

So let's see... Great fights, great martial arts action, great homages to old chop-socky flicks, buckets of blood, mountains of severed limbs, assassins dressed like Japanese school girls. And a simple little tale of revenge. No wonder why they had to split it in two.

Can't think of a better way to spend a couple hours.

And it looks like it's $15 everywhere. That's pretty common for brand new releases. Just bought it at Best Buy today.

Uma makes the difference. That woman can say more with her eyes than most actors can with their entire bodies.
